The term "vintage" does not accurately apply to anything, other than wine. The year it was bottled is the "vintage". Vine, hence vintage. Age does not make anything more desirable. Design, yes. Age, no. Take for example, a 2O13 Gibson LP Standard R8 vs a 1958 Gibson LP Standard. Why would any sane individual pay thousands of dollars more for a 1958 vs its 2O13 counterpart? Bragging rights?

I played a stock 1958 LP Standard burst for roughly 1/2 hour. There is not much difference between the two. Any audible difference was due to the pickups, nut, and bridge... not the age of the instrument.

But, but, a 58 LP is the holy grail, it has to be better, that's what i hear. Bonermassa has one so it must be true.

I’d call the ‘70’s amps vintage. Like to post my 40 year old ‘79 JMP in the vintage section but I can’t. Even though it is considered vintage, everywhere, except here.

20 years old is the beginning of antique/vintage IMO :2c:

Just noticed that my black wheelie bin has a 1989 date stamp -does that make it vintage?;)

All amps are vintage. I have a Studio Vintage that is vintage 2019 and a plexi that is vintage 1968.

If someone is selling anything over 3 weeks old on Ebay it's either vintage or rare

I have a friend who is a used music gear supplier. This guy buys tractor trailers and whole warehouses full of music gear at a time. He considers 25 years from present day to be vintage gear.

I think we agree on this:
The "vintage" is the year. So "vintage" could be any year as long as there "is" a year.

Yeah, the '73 cutoff here is kind of dumb. That cutoff refers to specs, not age.

I think the 73 thing demarcates the start of PCB amps. If you gotta draw a line, it’s a clear one.
