    Hi All,

I use an instrument cab to connect my head to the cab.....I've seen GC use speaker cables.....Which one do you use???? If I'm not mistaken it has to do with cable shielding but I'm not sure which....

On my hybrid Hughes & Kettner combo I always used a guitar cable without any issues, then when I got my DSL50 I switched to an instrument cable as per advice from different sources....

So which one "should I use"?

    DAYUM!!!!!!

No matter what kind of amp you use, ALWAYS use proper speaker cables to run from the head to the speaker cabs! NEVER an instrument cable.

I know.I know..it is a noob type of question, but I was told by a local guitar store to use an instrument cable...Good news is that I don't have the DSL anymore. And I never really played the amp loud...just bedroom levels....And my amp never had issues (thankfully).

I understand now that you guys educated me, so PLEASE resist the urge of slapping me :fingersx:

Anyway, I will buy a "speaker" cable this weekend....My new (used) JVM410h is coming Monday :dude:

I've never understood why they in the first place actually would tell you, or even believe such a thing themselves. Isn't it pure logic, speaker cable is what you use for speakers? :p

But yeah, I would never in my life think that I should use anything other than a speaker cable (even before I had any idea about it my first thought was that you'll certainly use a special cable for it, I would never, ever have thought that one would use a guitar cable, since that (to me) wouldn't make any sense).

Oh, and I'm not trying to pick down on anyone or anything, I'm just saying that we all think very differently, which I'm glad for. I just find it very interesting...:hmm:

I have walked in to music stores and have seen them using instrument cables from the back of a head into a cabinet. I've seen them do it with the impedance selector switches on the wrong setting. Due to years of bad experiences at music stores I always double check everything I am told by a sales person.

The last time was a this past summer. I walked in on a slow Tuesday to check out some effects. I had cash and I had heard that they got in some new Pigtronix effects pedals in the store. I Could have shopped online but I wanted actually to hear them plus it's a good idea to support local business.

So I go to an amp and look in the back and holy crap I still couldn't believe it. These clowns were trying to sell gear and they didn't know how to hook it up. So I tell the guy it was a bad idea to use THAT cable for THAT application. He just looks at me blank so I say it could damage the amp, he says it always worked so it didn't matter. I said I though it would be a good idea if we used a speaker cable from head to cab just while I tested out some pedals because I didn't want anything to happen while I was trying to demo the gear and I wouldn't be held liable.

He said no deal, I said no sale.

:) I had some special cables made up. I think it's either 10 or 8 Gauge Stranded low oxygen solid copper:

Damn Twin, battery cable. That is good for 6000 watts. What are you powering up? :)

Well that beats lamp cord and is definitly better than instrument cable for speaker connections.
