Worst argument ever. A Ferrari doesn't make the cops come and charge you for noise violations, nor does it cause hearing damage

An opinion is one thing, but it's irritating as **** when someone tries to tell you what's better or how to do something.

No it doesn't, from experience I know. Why don't you just say that a JCM1 sounds the same on 1 volume as it does on 10?

I'm going to cut to the chase. What is your point?

We know our amps can cause hearing damage, so can using Q tips/cotton buds. We know they are loud, most people buy them for that very reason. A lot of people here gig their amps.

I don't really get your point at all or am I just completely missing some detail?

The only part of this topic that usually intrigues me is when people say you can't gig with 20 watts… I get clean headroom. I get, "my amp sounds better set on 100 watts even though I'm not cranking it." (been there). But for shear volume, 20 watts will do a heck of a lot. And for real gigs, aren't people micing amps anyway?

I've started gravitating to lower wattage amps simply because I can get them to their sweet spot more easily and I don't have to pay for power tubes I really don't need.

    Your results probably vary.

Anyone that knows anything about amps of different sizes, knows that if you play a 1 watt amp at a specific volume & a 100 watt at the exact same volume, the 100 watt amp will have more thump behind it, sounding more full...

There's also the factor of what power tubes are used. Using a 12xx7 as a power tube will never sound like an EL34, 6550 or KT88...

They can sound great, but there's different tone/sound.

Not all good tone comes in at 10. There's 11! (JK!) I find that there comes a point where the tubes hit a plateau. On some amps, it's around 4 (NMV) & on others, it's around 6. Anything else is just compression.

I have zero problems getting great sound out of any of my amps from 1-100 watts in my livingroom, studio, or in a live situation. It's all about controlling sound, not letting it control you.

My point is, why spend $2000 on an amp you will never hear reach its true potential sound, because its so loud that it:

    1. Causes the walls to shake?
    2. Causes neighbors to call the cops?
    3. Damages your hearing?

The difference in sound from 1 to 10 on my JCM1 is negligible. The difference in sound from 1 to 10 on my 2204 is correctable.

The funny thing is you'll get the cops called on you if you crank a 5 watt, and you'll lose your hearing too.

You're right. I lie. I've never cranked my DSL.

I never took it outside when I lived on 100 acres and didn't have neighbors. And I never have the balls to crank it in my basement now that I have neighbors in a quiet suburb, even though they can't hear anything coming out of there.

MY WORLD OF LIES IS CRUMBLING AROUND ME!!!

    Oh and there's that too...
