I bought a gig bag that came with a killer Les Paul, so I feel I scored.
To be fair....
The Gibson gig bags are damn good for a bag...that said, it's no proper hardshell case by any means. But a fine bag it is.
But yeah. Bastards. Case should be part of the deal, especially for what we pay for a new guitar.
Wow ya'll are making me I feel like I really scored. I bought a 2019 P-90 Special and a Junior, got each for in the sub $1500 range. Both came in these Brown, TKL-lookin' cases, with a leather strap and a multi-tool, in the tool pouch of each. These two guitars were packaged real nice, and they are fantastic guitars. I got them both from Sam. Is this a 2020 thing? Or do different retailers possibly sell the 'package' spec'd differently?
Any reason / excuse to rag on Gibson right ?
You know what ? I think you hit the nail on the head . Some dealers/shops are out to gouge you . Ditto for shops that aren't Authentic/Authorized shops . Also when dealing with non authorized shops NO WARRENTY ! Think about that for a second ? Oh something wrong -deal with it on your own and dig into your own pocket .
They used to get ones made in Canada.
I'm glad I bought all my Gibsons years ago. Have a hardshell case for every one of them. I think it's a joke when they skimp on a case. Who wants a soft-shell gig bag?
It's Not just Gibson. Prs is a bigger offender I'd say. Although it seems Gibson goes out of their way to put themselves in the crosshairs of criticism over and over again.
I remember a day when even the el cheapo guitars came with a case of some sort.
I looked at the new Gibson deluxe bags and they can't be saving much by ditching the hardcase, for a bag they look fairly expensive, and pretty nice actually.
Still though, imo any guitar that cost $1000 or more by any company should come with a hard case.
When you can save a buck on a new guitar with no hard case . How do you compete with that . It is not Gibsons fault it is the dealer. The case is a extra thing that dealers can ad on.
The ironic thing is I never even use the cases, they sit stacked on a shelf.
whats wrong with a bolt on neck?
lol no excuse needed. but im sure you get folks point.
i remember when every guitar you bought had a HS case come with it
at every price point possible. anything over a grand i expect a HS case period.
Agreed 100% , for a thousand bucks you should get a decent hard shell case to protect there instrument they just sold you that you purchased . Reminds me of late 70's when I got a new CBS era Stratocaster and the Mom and Pop store that I purchased it from would not include a hard shell case with the Stratocaster and we went round and round until they finally threw in a black tolex hardshell case , which was not new and was for a P Bass/Jazz Bass and I said to them the case is too large for the Stratocaster ! Do you know what they told me to do ? They told me to stuff a towel by the headstock to prevent it from knocking in around in there loosely . Can you freaking believe that ? My personal feeling and gut feeling is its the dealer shops that are pulling this fast one on there customers . Every Gibson guitar I have ever purchased always came with a hardshell case . There is no way I am walking out of a store with a soft shell padded case . What I suggest is to have a back up plan on another store with similar instruments where if store A balks at including a hardshell case with your guitar tell them you will walk out and seek out the same or similar instrument at a competitor shop and watch how fast they accommodate you . You have to be prepared to walk away , and if they don't help you then is that where you really want to spend your hard earned income ? There are far to many choices for consumers to have to be stuck with greedy shop owners .
Fender is guilty as well.
When I bought my 2008 American Standard Telecaster, it came with an SKB case that seems to be practically indestructible.
Now they are selling American Performer series Strats for more money that come with a gig bag.
buy a guitar with more knobs.
That's just insanity...wow~!
Also just noticed that new MIM Fenders are now $700....
im surprised they are that cheap too.
I liked them a lot better when they were $499 lol. Buy used I suppose...like I always do.
