I bought a brand new Gibson SG Standard in 2011 it was $1600 and came with a beautiful hard shell case that fits the guitar like a tailored suit. Today at the local guitar shop I was eyeing up another SG standard same guitar as mine but Rosewood fret board and in Ebony they’re now $2000 and said “gig bag included” lol like WTF??? Spend 2k on a Gibson now and get a cheap ass gig bag? What the hell is that all about? A Gibson Flying V for $1600 same thing, chinsy gig bag. That’s disappointing.

That seems to happen from time to tome. The 2016 Explorers came w a case for 12 hun, the 2017's didn't have any case for 12 hun.

Because Gibson knows that you won't buy a guitar without spending more on the hard case.
The gig bag is a ploy to make you spend more money. It's a poke.
Who would buy a $2000 SG and "not" put it in a hard case? I mean WTF ? Of course you will buy a good case and forget the "gig bag."
That's how Gibson gets you to spend another $100.
They are squeezing more value out.

Thanks for clarifying. I was wondering what Chopin did to Gibson.

    No problem...much better..haha..

I think it's kind of shitty as well..buying a $1500 guitar and you get a gig bag. My 2018 SG Standard came with a nice brown hardcase with the plush red interior. That guitar was $1500 new.

they're just following the pattern of charlie cheaping everything first guitars now cases.
gibson arent there to make high quality stuff they're there to make money for themselves.
in the old days they had to make high quality stuff because that's what their thing was now they realize thats just romantic bullshit and just cheap out like everyone else.

    • Raise the price
    • Lower the quality

Take your pick. The need for ever-increasing profit will always be with us.

I looked at an Explorer last year and seen that it did not have a case. That is exactly why I bought a mint 2006 Explorer with a case and saved $500+. I thought that it was stupid to not come with a case at those prices.

That's not as bad as Suhr guitars. They sell 4k guitars with a gig bag (not to mention, a bolt-on neck).
