    I might have a spare.
The ceramic were used to minimise arcing, clearly not good enough in this circumstance!
I have both amphenol and similar too. I am sure I can spare one if you show exactly which type you need. I’m in UK.

Arcing isn't really a problem even w/ a smaller socket, provided speaker impedance is correct. When mismatched load is connected, then it arcs bigger socket or not.

For some reason around period of transition between turret board and PC board models of 1959, they used this socket for about a year I have no clue why.
Then they went back to smaller sockets.

    1971.
I’ve had a couple of them. First time I’ve seen arcing with the ceramics.
The amp in the pics has had some odd things done to it as well.
It is the relatively rare one with Drake trannies. I had an SB with them.

Seems like those big sockets are harder and harder to find.
I have 2 Millen sockets and they cost like $40 each. I think I maybe can find them if anybody gets desperate.
But even Millen Co. seems to have disappeared now, find no trace of them anymore.

Does anybody know what happened to Millen?

I found some new sockets located in Greece

You can get 4 or 5. This is a reasonable price.

    Why are those so special/rare?

That is a good price (shipping to US is very cheap too).
I have two sorts of Amphenol (plain hole and slotted mounting holes), an EICO and some Cinch ceramic octals. The rest are brown/black McMurdos, Amphenols and the like.
I'd grab the Greek ones, I can't do just post that cheap!

    Why are those so special/rare?

The sockets were made for radio transmitters. 5000 volt plate supplies.
The mounting hole is 31.75 mm instead of the usual 28mm so a normal socket won't fit.
You could put in adapter plates to mount smaller sockets...that's about it.

The sockets were easier to get for several years but now everybody seems to be running out of them.
Tube radio transmitters are becoming obsolete and the parts are going to be hard to buy.

I bought Millen sockets because they fit, but 4 of them cost like $140. Nice sockets they are but now even Millen has disappeared somewhere...

So now people who own 71 Plexi will be scrounging around when a socket burns.
Same problem for Sunn tube amps too, which also used Millen sockets.

I guess you could use plastic ones but not nearly as good.
Looks like you gotta buy adapter plates from now on.

Those sockets in Greece: just buy all of them.

Those are probably the best ones you can find that fit.

Man I'd love to get my hands on an original turret board Plexi or JCM800.

I'm sure you'll get it sorted out, good luck.
