I have a JVM1H that I brought back from the UK to the US. The stock transformer doesnt have a switch, so I etcher. Ed to replace it or use an external one. Is there a merit to either one? Heard here that it might not be a good idea to use the external

It is generally preferable to have the amp modified for use in the area where you use it. That way you won't have to remember to bring along the external voltage converter.

Don't let that keep you from using it, go ahead and use the converter with the amp until you can get the power transformer modified or replaced.

It's not a difficult job to fit a new transformer , x2 bolts and a few spade connectors .

Check inside to see if the existing has voltage taps.
Call Marshall service and get the right transformer.

E mail K Dog and ask him if the service center can change it for you.

The external voltage converters are not made for audio equipment, these are made for hair dryers and shavers. These are made for temporary usage.
A real step down transformer needs to be made for continuous use.
