    Anybody understand me here?

I truly believe that the sound we seek is one with just guitar and amp.

    No effects

And to be able to control the level of dynamics, tone and sustain but clean overdriven power
From pure clean to intense overdrive and infinite sustain simply with our fingers.
    Hendrix had that in abundance
Sorry I have forgot to mention the late great Gary Moore

I know I am OCD odd so apologies

Need some fx dude just the way it is with my playing but then again i stopped trying to emulate any players years ago. I mean you are talking to a guy who regularly uses a Micro POG and a Ravish Sitar pedal.

I've never been a big effects user. Mostly just one overdrive. I admire how some players can use them though. Done right effects are cool.

Nonsense and 10 million effects using guitar players would say the same.

Depending on my mood, no fx, to just a clean boost, but I guess that a 10 band EQ is an a effect, so I am still a user of FX.
    Cheers

I respect your opinion and I DO use FX for live and studio work (old Boss ME6 pedal board, Alesis Midiverb IV, MXR 90, Dunlop Q series and an ancient AD/A flanger). But there is nowt more therapeutic when at home than just my old 10 watt Champ on 11 (changed the 10 with black felt tip) and my 79 Strat :)

    Cheers man :)

I respectfully disagree sir, nearly back to Buddy though

Peter was one of the first young blokes that would hang out at the drum shop along with EC + others and gave Dudley, Jim and Terry invaluable feedback about what players were looking for. The JTM 30 combo was built to fit in Eric's boot.

Shame Pete was never allowed to marry Princess Margaret though.

Sorry Geddy, I'll get my coat. Would have caused quite a stir though, Peggy liked a bit of rough :)
PS - Alex was my first guitar hero and this is still the greatest rock guitar sound ever IMHO. Hiwatts though, so not strictly relevant for here. Although interestingly enough Mr Zivojinovich did use a 50w Superlead on the first album.

    Cheers dude :)

I like the idea of Pete Townshend flying a spitfire in the same way that he plays guitar

Gary Moore is using both reverb and delay on that recording. Just sayin.
To me it depends on the effect and tonality the piece of music calls for.
Effects can single handedly change the landscape of the work.
Take for example, any number of Pink Floyd songs without the use of effects by David Gilmour.
Nowadays I use effects when the music calls for it.
Years ago I needed to go through the Kirk Hammett wah pedal twelve step addiction and abuse program.

Yeh cool Butthead !! Reminds me of when the far right laid into Jimi after he had played the "The Star Spangled Banner" at Woodstock. His use of the Vibrato arm through blazing Marshall Superleads sounded like an F-100 Sabre falling out of the sky in Nam, apparently. How silly :naughty::naughty:. Also Robert Plant says "mmm sweet Satan" muffled, if you play "Stairway" backwards. Not a big fan of "Protools" to be honest, but it will help to avoid knackering a stylus and damaging your treasured vinyl copy of Four Signs :D:D

Fair comment Phony but reverb is kinda natural? All you need is an amp, guitar and a spare Royal Albert Hall. KR's :D:D
