I forget her name, but she sang a few songs. Right here is "Sex Farm Girl":

In the background they had the Hollywood Chamber Symphony Orchestra, that did a great job.

My brother is a major Spinal Tap fan & has gone to all the shows, of them, the Folksman, etc. His buddy that he usually goes w/ moved out of state, so he asked if I wanted to go.

I wasn't expecting much, as it's mostly comedy to me. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of music here. Seriously, it was sort of a theatre musical. Some twisted humour throughout, definitely not PC.

But musically, it was really good. The symphony really added to the overall sound & made it a serious musical score. Mark Bonilla is a shredder w/ some chops. Luke had the best tone & played very high quality & he plated a TSL! I couldn't recognize Bonilla's amp. The tolex was some sort of dark teal color. The tone was ok, but sounded thin & trebley. Wachtel used a Magnatone (Supro type) & his sound was overall fuzzy, sounded like he was using a Jensen alnico w/ raspy treble. Sounded good when he played slide though. Zappa used a fractal setup. He had trouble at 1st, but it sounded good once he got it going. It didn't cut as well as the other guitar sounds though.

    Did I mention that Luke had the best tone w/ a JCM2000 TSL100 through a stock looking 1960 (probably w/ G-75s)? :)...

    interesting thing...

    this image (already posted above),

    IMG_0758.jpg

if you look over to the far right, you'll see a plexi drum shield. They had it behind the drummer, projecting the drums out into the audience, but blocking it from going backwards...

Because the symphony was back there & they didn't want the drums blasting out the orchestra. IDK how they mic'd them, but it probably helped w/ separation, so they could have more headroom w/ the flutes, etc., & not dealing w/ drum bleed...

For those who appreciate Luke for his guitar prowess, his vocal abilities as well as his songwriting, you may want to check out his solo album as he bears his mind.
The side of Luke some may want to know.

Sounds like a great show! Paul Schaffer is simply amazing and can play anything ever produced!

TSL100, wow! This makes me feel better that I have a TSL60 on the way, I always wanted to try the TSL line.

his name seemed to have faded in the early 90s for some reason but folks say hes stayed
    hard at work.

as always its good to see Billy still up there being the rebel lol.
we are lucky to still have this guy around.
if you havent seen Billy live you need to. he puts on a good show.

They had video cam's, but I think it was more for the multimedia experience...

My brother said that he thinks they are feeling it out doing a tour & see where it goes.

I forgot to say last night that Donald Fagen also did a "satellite" appearance in one song, as well as Janie Lynch.

Too bad they were gestapo w/ security, or I'd have had some audio/visual. It's really a shame when the recorded versions sound nowhere as good as it did in the room, especially w/ the orchestra.

yeah, although, they say "live via satellite" I'm betting on pre-recorded video played to a sync track....

It really was good musically. Listening to the studio cuts, (that I've found) is nowhere near as impressive. The Hollywood Symphony really did a good job, so the score they followed was well done & they had their conductor, who came out & introduced the project, seemed full of irony, taking on such a serious but satirical musical production...

this guys was actually sitting next to me. When he was recording, inbetween songs, he was making comments, like the one in the video, where he says Billy Idol & Derek Smalls at around 3:36...

My 1st couple x's seeing him play, he was playing Montrose tribute concerts...
