I'll work on an acceptable thread title, in the mean time new Marshall owner, DSL1HR. New to tube amps altogether in fact. Been making noise for about 3 years mostly on an old crate mx20cr. Its ok, but no nowhere near what this little amp can be. looking at hooking it up to crate BV-412S, I got a line on one for 125, not real sure if this is too much cab for that little amp, but the price seems about right so unless there is a good reason not to, I will just pull the trigger on it. for the time being, It's just sitting there looking pretty. Anyway, I'll be doing a lot of reading and learning

Make sure you ohm match the cab the amp. Measure the ohms at the cable. You are good to go

yeah, thats what Ive been reading. the head is 16 ohm. the cab is mono/stereo 4/16 ohm. so I guess it's good to go. just don't want to hurt it before the new amp smell wears off.

Thats good advice. I hadn't thought of that. I should be able to plug a speaker cord into the cab and check the resistance off the cord with an ohm meter, I'll do that before buying it. seriously, I'd be upset if I fried my amp on a 125 dollar cab. But aside from that, will it sound tinny with so much speaker, advertised as 400 watts, being pushed by 1 watt? Or does it not work that way. I really don't know.

You will hear something. You should know as much as you can about your gear it will pay off. Bad advice at discounted rate is just one of many services I offer

It's OK to use 1 watt, should work alright.

Well you take the speakers out of the cabinet.
Then you move each speaker in/out by hand, like a piston up and down.

If the cone scrapes when it moves in/out the speaker is blown.
If the cone is free to move in/out without scraping then it is still good.
But don't play a speaker that scrapes when it moves.

Then you test each speaker with the ohm meter.
Then you can test it by connecting a 9 volt battery to see which way the speaker moves when you touch the battery to the terminals.

And if the speakers pass all the above testing then it's OK to buy them.
But I wouldn't buy a speaker cab without testing it, the speakers inside might be blown out trash.

more good advice. I didn't know anything about the 9v battery test, which way should it move? I guess I have a 9v and a home stereo speaker that I know is good, so I could just run that test on that speaker to see how it behaves.

I did the 9v speaker test before I knew about it in the early 90s picking up a 60b cab. They all clicked so speakers were good... well not so much. I set a 2204 on top and cranked it after the deal was done. 2 of the 4 speakers buzzed like crazy. Pulled the speakers and they were fine but the suspensions broke loose from the frame. I cleaned the suspension and frame contact surface and reglued with a glue I sourced at the time, can't remember. All fixed, good to this day.

I'm going to check it out tomorrow, Friday. It it checks out I'm bringing it home. Really can't wait. If this used one doesn't work our, then I'll just buy new, either way is fine by me.

Take your Dsl1HR with you and listen to the cab.

I was definitely going to do that. All this advice is moot if it simply doesn't sound good through my amp.
And believe me, I really appreciate all the advice. I've had a number of combos over the past few years, but never owned a head or cab. so matching things up is a new thing requiring new expertise.

I bought that little sucker. Everything checked out fine, so it followed me home. The amp/cab sounds great, could probably be better with celestion speakers. The cab has crate branded speakers. Dont know who makes them. But I got it for 100. So I feel good about it. Maybe upgrade later, but for now I'm just enjoying.
Thanks everyone for the input, very much appreciated.
