That looks sweet. I never tried one in person, and the DSL20 videos I saw weren't that impressive either. I might not have gotten the 20 if I hadn't heard good things from a couple of trusted acquaintances. I bought it new so I could send it back if it was a dud, just in case.

I mostly use the clean channel with OD, distortion and reverb pedals most of the time and don't use a lot of gain in the ultra channel sometimes with a bit of boost from the overdrive pedal. So not a lot of high gain, sounds great through a 2x12.

I have a DSL5c I kept and wanted something a bit bigger and usable in a band, otherwise I probably would have looked at the 1 more closely.

I am so impressed with the Dsl1 they now I want something with a bit more umph! I’m leaning toward the DSL20 combo but I haven’t ruled out the 5 combo.

The reason I’m leaning towards the 20 is the 12” speaker and the EL34 power tubes.

I’ve been playing my 1 head thru a 1-12 cab with a G12M-65 Creamback....it sounds great! Some of my favorite settings are....

...on the green channel,....volume dimed and the bass and middle at about 12:00, treble around 2:00.

And the red channel.....volume dimed with the same eq settings as the green channel, and the gain on anywhere from 9:00 to 3:00.

    It sounds phenomenal!

Made a decision: I'm keeping the 1w for now. The voicing works for me, and while I love the 20 gain channel for how the depth and the harmonic content, the overall voicing is just slightly different. So -- it's the 1w head!

Glad you found the one !!! Out of curiosity , did you find the input from the (two) threads that I'm aware of helpful …… and your impression of how the feedback here differed from the feedback 'there' ?

    Thanks Jon -- appreciate it!
I did indeed, but in the end I kind of just had to ignore the idea that the 20 is the bigger, better amp (which it is!), and I went with which one SOUNDED the best to me, for my purposes. I've gotta say, though, it was close!! Part of me still wants to keep 'em both, but I can't justify it right now without one of the two having a good, chewy clean channel. Both are great on the gain channel, but slightly different voicings.

How about the feedback from this forum vs 'that' one ?

To be honest, similar in most respects, but maybe 'kinder' here ;-)

Thanks …… I know you, like most, probably just 'take what you can use' …… I find that the need over there to 'criticize the comments of others in the thread' too often trumps the 'I may be able to help the OP' demeanor of so many ……

Exactly, man -- exactly that. To be honest, I became so disillusioned with the Internet that I just use it as a resource these days for information (present company accepted, of course!).

Victory vertical 2x12 with celestion v30s -- although, someone is currently twisting my arm over keeping the 20, too. It's probably going to happen!

For what it’s worth I agree with @tce63,...keep the 20 if you can afford it. A couple weeks from now I’ll be buying a 20cr,....I think It’ll compliment my 1hr nicely

For sure I’ll be swapping out the Seventy/80 speaker that comes stock with the 20cr to either a G12M-65 or a WGS ET65.

Thanks -- price isn't the issue so much as space at the minute. Definitely want to keep the 20!

OP is still on the fence, it’s a space thing, but I told myself not to help twist his arm. :naughty: :dude: :h5: Cheers Mitch

So you’re keeping them both? Or you’ve decided to return the 1?

After a lot of deliberation I've done a complete turn around, and I've decided to keep the 20 and return the 1. The 1w is great, but I don't have the space for an extra head at the minute, so sadly it had to go. I landed on the 20 for flexibility, and the fact that I can take it into the ballpark tone of the 1w with a compressor/EP boost.
