Is the JB the perferct bridge pickup? I think it might be.
In some guitars, yes, ...it is.
Custom Custom for me, although a JB with an A2 mag swap and a 250k volume pot is pretty awesome as well..
Is the Custom Custom hotter than the JB?
I never had one till I picked up a used low-end Jackson Rhodes. It came with the JB/Jazz pups and I really like them. I may try one in a LP one day. I'm sure the're great for a strat.
The Custom Custom is 14.4 w/ an A2 mag & the JB is 16.4 w/ an A5. I threw an A8 in a JB and liked it. I'm seriously considering ordering a Custom Custom for my Lynch Tiger.
Custom Custom = 14.4k
JB = 16.4k
Same here. I've had a Duncan Distortion in my Les Paul for 20 years... Bought a cheap ($500 used) LTD Eclipse with JB/59 and was really taken aback at how much I like the JB. It's brighter than the Distortions with a little tighter grunt for thrash surprisingly. It sounds more like an EMG with high gain than my Distotions which is odd.
Shit, I have some A2's laying around, I should try that! Thinking about trying one in an asylum+ too.
The JB has no bottom end. If that's what you like, then it could well be...
IYHO of course right.
Through a Triple Rec and Mark V in stereo that may well be it. I have bass in surplus.
Well, it didn't last 5 minutes in my Strat...
I yanked it out right away, been sitting in it's box ever since...
I was thinking about trying it in the neck position in my LP. Maybe it will be better suited there...
See, now we know what you're talking about, so instead of a 'blanket' opinion that JB's have no bottom end, in your particular experience with the strat it didn't.
I have a couple of flying V's with JB's in the bridge and they have plenty of bottom end.
I'm playing it through this beauty (she's cheap but sucks a mean man bag).
Well, I see on here (in this forum) people talking about turning the bass on their amp to "0" & that's what they want. There's nothing wrong w/ that, just not for me. I used it w/ a 500K pot.
It seemed that the SD site showed a different tone chart than they do now.
currently they are showing:
5 / 6 / 8 bass/mid/treble (could've swore it was 3/5/8 before)
My current p/u in my strat has this:
7 / 8 / 4
I have the same in my Tele now...
I'm currently using 1M pots. That way I get the most pure sound from the pickup. If I used thew JB w/ 1M pot, I could only imagine how trebly it would be...
I think Dogs has something here, I lean more towards the DD but I have a JB in an old Bc Rich strat & it sounds killer but everything else in that guitar sounds shit(DD, Full Shred, Dimarzio SD, L500XL) this is a bassy guitar so....
& for the record...
The custom Custom says 3/7/7 currently. Not very bottom heavy.
It's all what you like & what you do w/ it that counts.
Nice guitar SonVolt ...
Post a clip if you have the JB installed in there!
Try a 1M volume pot. It will bring that guitar alive & you might just like those other pickups in there!
I'm running an A2 Asylum plus set in my LP and it kills!
