I thought the same thing, and still do in some respects. But the folks that I’ve heard from that have both the SC20 combo and the SV20 combos rave about how big this 10” V-type speaker sounds in this little cab!

I don't have one of the Studio series amps, but I do have a 10" V-Type speaker in my Class 5, and it is a great speaker. Celestion have created an excellent speaker with the V-Type series, worthy of British made amps like the Studios. Does it sound like a 12" speaker? No it doesn't, but it's not a Ten-30 either. Besides, they put speaker out jacks on the combos so you can plug into a 1x12 if you so desire, or you can get a head/cab setup. Me, I'm tired of amp makers putting 8" speakers in low watt amps, 10" is my minimum, and the V-Type belies it size, sounds bigger, not as boxy. FWIW

A new amp series? They need a standard issue head that works right. The 900's were the first in a succession of "wtf" amps loaded with design flaws, that always blow up or need mods, and so far their only successes are reissues, budget and specialty stuff. Go back to what worked and mod or update it. One idea would be an 800 with proper fx loop, and a footswitchable sweet clean channel. So much great history to use as a springboard.

    ... off topic warning. .
.. those books have everything you need to start a religion.... and I like how he hints at Marwin's true purpose was to calculate the question to the answer, but never got the chance... brain the size of a planet....

.. sorry for the interruption... back as you were...

    “Just like this”,......why?

Seems to me a Jvm has that amount of gain,....no? It just doesn’t sound vey musical to me. Just how much is this amp anyway? $6000?

Sorry, that’s just my opinion, that’s all. :D

Honestly it dosen't sound much different than the now multitude of models that ceriatone offers. ie. king kong, molecular, gargoyle,AH etc etc. Plus they are handwired and roughly $1k-1.5k.

I think ultimately there's going to be a new studio series head or two, and I'm hoping for some new 100w head of some form, something original that would be down the lines of the kind of sound I'm into.

Even if they don’t it seems like a certain amp builder from Malaysia is eating everybody’s lunch when it comes to price, quality, and support.

    Sure they could.
Use Stacked Dual Pots especially for the EQ.
Next amp I build if its going to be a 2 channel, that's what I'll use.

They would work, then you could have just one set of eq knobs but each stack is for a different channel.

    but isn't the DSL20HR already some kind of 20W 2+channel JVM ?
I don't see the point of reproducing an amp so close to a current one... I don't really see any other studio line amp except maybe for anniversary amps (30th and Vintage Modern) inspired models
    30th would give it's renowned clean tone + a multi-vintage crunch/overdrive
VM would give a KT66 powered 20w studio amp instead of an EL34 one...

I love the Vintage Modern. I want another one some day. but they didn't make any money from that model, and it barely has a cult following even with us. It's not coming back.

I think the JVM's replacement is coming. Which will probably include a Studio version of whatever they call it.

Yes, it sounds great. But I can't say it's anywhere near being above what a Marshall can do. I don't think you said "above" but... I'll stick with the SV20 and a couple of gain pedals in front. It's about as classic as I've heard yet.

SV20H is a Fantastic amp, probably the best amp I've ever had, and in Europe you get at least 2 or 3 of them for the same price of one Friedman

I’ve had lots of great handwired amps but I have to say that the Sv20h is the one to beat. I don’t know how a gigging musician could ask for more.
Of course the 100 watt holy grail plexis are wonderful, but I don’t know what I can do with a hundred watts....at least in my world.
