Is there anyone here with some experience with the Dimarzio Chopper?
What can you tell me about the sound, comparisons to the Quarter Pounder, Hot Rails etc?

I really would like to know how it compares to the Seymour Duncan JB jr especially. If it is a bit hotter and beefier that the Jr, I might keep it.

I've had a loaded pick guard with one sitting around for 3 years and haven't been bothered to use it, but am thinking of selling it unless someone convinces me to put it into a guitar.

I just bought a Fender Billy Corgan Strat and the middle pickup is a Chopper...I'll have to report back though because the guitar is literally less than a week old and I've only played it twice.

In the mean time have a look at this video, at 2:10 you can hear the Chopper

I wish I could be of help, Aus. I don't want to steer you wrong. In my 20's? 30's? my good friend Richie had a chopper and I remember it sounding great. Then again, he was a monster player and multi faceted. He probably could play into a can w/ a string nailed to it and sound good, so.. I can't say for sure. Sorry, my dude.

Well I'll have to up my game now. :thumb:

    I installed it.
And I like this setup better than what was in it-Malmsteen-configuration with the DP117 Dimarzio in bridge. It was always a bit dull, and not enough grunt.
Strung it with 9-42's and will see how it goes at rehearsal tonight.

Glad you asked, i came here to give the result.
With my band, through the Silver Jubilee, It didnt work out well. My other guitarist has a big sound, and my guitar couldn't match it. Its a lot more mid-heavy than the Hot Rails. My Bass player commented "your guitar is brighter", and I always use different guitars(humbucker guitars) with this band and it works well.
But I really like the Bluesy roll off tones I can get with it.

I'm looking forward to using it with a 4 holer. Its another guitar another tone that I have to play with, but its not suited for my bands repertoire.

Again Aus... I've only used one that was in the middle position on a strat.

And the 2 & 4 switch positions were absolutely glorious!
The neck/bridge pu's were stock Fender whatevers.

Why someone put a Chopper in the middle or how it was wired was/is beyond me, but it worked amazingly.

I was playing through a Blackface 4x10 super btw.

I really like this pickup with a clean/slightly distorted tone.

I like it on 2nd switch position too.
Heres some little examples I did yesterday mucking around with vol level roll off on the guitar:

I like that a lot. Great dynamics going on between guitar and amp. You need to do more clips. Your playing is stellar Oz.

    Thanks.
Funny you should say that, but I'm going to put up one of the guitar pieces of music that I have been finishing off today.

You've given me an idea. I have a strat with Hot Rails in the bridge-a Chopper in the neck pos would make this really versatile.
