50w vs 100w: not just a difference in headroom....a difference in breadth of tone and firmness in the low frequencies. Think of the difference between the sound of a Boston Terrier's bark and a Great Dane's.

It's not a perfect amp, the FX loop it's good for analog effects but sounds crap with multieffects and loopers. It's loud but not like my others 100w Marshall head. A JMP, a JTM, a plexi has more punch and body sound than a VM. It is an amp with his own thing sound. Lovely vintage tones.

I read somewhere (on the internet) that the VM 2466 was only pushing 77 watts at full volume power levels.

That's what they say. True, it's not as powerful as my other 100w heads....but that's like saying the Hiroshima bomb wasn't as powerful as the one they dropped on Nagasaki. It's still a loud mofo.

More importantly, it'll do more than just vintage tones. Much more. Maybe my speaker cabs have something to do with it.....through an MF400 cab it's voice is deep and wide. Also surprisingly tight for an amp that uses KT66 power tubes

    You are right.

The 50W Vintage Modern will put out around 36W(RMS) clean and 50W(RMS) when driven, just like the old JTM45s. Other 50W Marshalls put out 50W (RMS) clean then more when driven.
The 100W VM put outs 77W (RMS) clean and 100W (RMS) when driven.
