    Hi all,

Has anyone got one of the Studio Vintage combos with the 10" V-Type?

I have seen a few posts on the head but haven't found any feedback on the forum re the combo.

That guy from Premier Guitar seemed to like the one he was demo'ing a lot.

I am wanting the combo rather than the head for ease of transport to rehearsal, small ish gigs and jams.

I have a greenback G10 hanging around (if the V-type doesn't cut it).

I like mine it rocks with all my guitars, takes anything I throw at it. Speaker holds up well! tungsol power tubes I like over the JJ which were a little dull. I had a greenback in i thought it loss some of its highs i might try it again sometime

Interesting that you prefer the V-Type. I settled for one in my 1 x 12 cab over a greenback funnily enough. Did you have to re bias for the the Tung sol's?

I demo'd one in store a few months back, sounded and felt really good. I was pleasantly surprised. Spent about an hour on it with 5 or 6 different guitars.

Ok so it's now ordered, being delivered tomorrow. Think I was lucky to find it for £600. They seem to be in excess of £700 everywhere else.

I had one for a day and sent it back. I probably didnt spend enough time with it but it just sounded thin and ice picky to me. I popped in Mullard preamp tubes and it sounded a bit better. I may have had a bad one because most seem to like it. Plus, I had a bad attitude right from the start with the 10” speaker. I didnt really need it and it didnt wow me compared to my other amps so back it went. You will need an attenuator to get decent tones at low levels. Good luck!

The bias on the Studio amps is fixed, and you will not need to re-bias when changing tubes. The tubes are being run so far below their intended operating range, the only concern when changing tubes would be how it affects the tonality. I'm sure there will be some "fiddling" with the bias on these down the road (modding).

I got a killer deal on the combo for $999 on black Friday a couple of weeks ago. It is as loud as everyone says it is-at least to get it to give up some natural overdrive. But when you do it sounds excellent! It also sounds fantastic clean. I rather like the v type but all I have to compare it to is a 212 vintage 30 loaded cab. I did swap the jj el34's for gt el34 m tubes. Killer amp.

Mine has just been delivered to my garage (looking at it via a webcam that I have setup). Looking forward to trying her out tonight.
I am wondering why people are changing the EL34's and not the pre amp valves. I have found that the pre amp valves have had the biggest effect on tone for all other amps I have/still own.

I use to roll preamp tubes all the time to tame amps but I find the JJ and chinese tubes seem to work fine in the new Marshalls.

OK. I may try an RFT in V1 if I find it too bright as i have a few of them lying around. You say you tried a Greenback G10 and found it rolled off too much of the highs?

Maybe just maybe it can get stuffed in there. Ut I dont think it will. When I had mine it looked like there would not be enough room. The SV and SC combo cabs are much smaller than the Origins.

I see. I'll check the interwebz to see if anyone did that experiment. While I understand why they put the 10' i wish they had at least a 12' option :/
