I just saw this thread Steve so please pardon my tardiness.

I don't really do sound clips, if I had my old 4 track cassette recorder back maybe, but I have yet to understand recording with an interface, which I have, and can't get a decent recording otherwise.

Where are you at, St Pete? Have you seen Cowboy Mafia play?

I'm having trouble getting the edges to blend with the dark sides. It worked perfectly on the lower horn but that's the only place it did. Everywhere else the color won't take anymore and it's leaving a sharp edge..

It dawned on me a little while ago that the lower horn that looks right, I had started to use steel wool on it way back after I did the first tru-oil coat. I thought it was coloring the wood gray because steel has a reaction like that with the tea wash that turns it gray. In fact it's the trick to getting an aged look and I didn't want that. Turns out that's the only area where the finish on the edges is doing what I want it to.

I sanded the edges lightly with some 320 grit today before I tried again and it didn't work. I guess tomorrow I'll bust out the steel wool and see if that works.

I figured you might have, they play out that way a lot. That's Frankie band, he's is a long time member here, but he doesn't really post anymore. He sings and plays while his old man tears it up on lead. I've only seen them once, but they were great.

Just for shits & grins... This is not the floyd or the neck and the finish is nowhere near done (it's going to be a lot shinier), but you get the idea.

I think the pickup needs a black metal mounting ring.

    That's the plan! :D

My only regret is not getting a mini hb rout for a neck pickup. I tried to add it to my order, but Warmoth was lightning fast with this body and it shipped before I tried to contact them so I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Almost done with the top, a couple of more coats and it should be there. :fingersx:

It's actually a little darker than it looks in these pics with my crappy camera...

Well what do you know, my crappy camera did good this time, you can't see the flame this much looking at it raw, but there it is in the pics. In fact I was disappointed at first sight, lol!

Had to sand it back down, somethings wrong. after the 3rd wash black spots appeared all over the neck, the worst being on the headstock. Luckily I was able to sand them out. Hmm, I need a plan B...

The only thing I can think of is that before I did the 3rd wash I knocked the grain down with some steel wool. Maybe I didn't get all the steel dust off and it had a reaction with the tea.

I'm trying it again, I'll know in a few...

That there was some nasty ass tea!!!

I don't knock the grain down until I'm done with the tea and the wood is dry. I use a blow dryer to speed things up.
