Heading to a jam this weekend, but the day before the jam we're having sort of a 'shootout'. Maybe I should just call it a comparison. A Mini Jubilee combo, an SC20H and an SV20C all together in one room.

To be honest, we won't be trying to "choose the best" even though that conclusion could be reached, by accident. The main purpose is to dial in different tones, hear the differences between the three, compare gain, maybe see how similar we can get them to sound (or not!), and just have a great time doing it. I don't know if anyone has ever done this with all three models. It won't exactly be "apples to apples" anyway, unless we play them all through the same cab, which is also a possibility.

I'd love to post some clips here afterwards, I do think we'll be able to do some recording. If I do, it'll probably be some AC/DC or something like that. Wish us luck! But most of all, fun!

Well Walshy you've got to post clips and dialogue or script so that we know what's going on.
No clips and it never happened! That's the rule! lol

I have the mini 2525c and the SV combo both with tungsol power tubes 2 different amps! the jube sounds pretty big with bigger cab and a 12 in speaker. The SV sounds great through it!

We will have the two combos, plus an older 2x12 Marshall cab with Greenbacks, I believe. I want to hear the combos with their original speaker, but then possibly run each of them through the 2x12...?

I honestly don't know how to do that, but my friends might know how.

With combos stand back far enough to capture the tones instead of standing over them:)

I do also. I have had a Mini Jube for quite awhile, and I also have the SC20H. I've never done a comparison, because the Mini Jube is usually left where my band practices. I've always leaned towards it, but recently fell in love with the SC20H also, I think the new Greenback speakers finally got broken in.

stock tungsols EL34's are kinda bright at first I noticed it with the dsl so I wrote them and they said they smooth out with some hours on them and they did. I think my jube is smoothing out also i bought it a couple of months ago.

I like to run the output master at full tilt playing loud and lead master at 7 and output gain. Rest of the EQ around 7

Though about the 800 I would like to demo it loud. I tried one at the store when I was buying the Slash guitar I though it had some low end for a combo at low volumes

I am very interested in hearing the results as well! Through Greenie's would peak my interest.

I, too, am interested in the results/impressions.

If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on the SC20H as the overall most impressive of the three.

We had the "Marshall Shootout" last night. It was a blast! I will start with this: all 3 amps sounded fantastic. Mini Jubilee combo, JCM800 Studio head that I brought, and the Studio Vintage 20W combo supplied by Zenland of this forum.

We went for an AC/DC type of tone, and attempted to dial in all 3 amps to sound as close to each other as we could. Recorded 3 clips and compared them.

IMO, the 3 amps sounded very close to each other, the way we had them set up, closer than we got the clips to sound, but that could have been mic placement, which we weren't real scientific about, in every case. We had a limited amount of time, but were pretty happy with the results.

I especially wanted to hear the SV20C, having not heard one in person, and it didn't let us down. Even without jumping the channels, it sounded fantastic. I wish we could have done more, but traffic held us up on the way there, resulting in less time to do the recordings than we expected. I would have liked to play all 3 amps through the same cabinet, but that would have meant a lot of juggling, so we went with what we had, in the time allotted. To me, the SC20H sounded the fullest, but it was coming through the 2x12 cab with Greenbacks. We didn't all agree on which amp sounded "the best", either. Imagine that! :jam:

I believe we got pics of the amp settings, also. I'll have to see if we can get them posted, along with the sound clips, later today. Sorry for the delay, we're not the most technologically advanced sound crew. :iough:
