They can't be Ruby Golds can they? I bought this amp a year or so ago, and that's what are in it. It's been idle since I got my Freidman so I thought it would be a good time to possibly re-cap it if necessary. Other than replacing a preamp tube and noticing the output tube were JJ's, I was not expecting to see a non- Marshall branded part and the guy I got it from didn't know if anything had been done to it. Just curious. It's one of the handwired RI's if that means anything.

The Ruby Gold caps are hi fi caps, pretty good ones that probably do not need to be replaced.
No Ruby is not the stock caps.
What the 1959 RI needs is
that if it has a hum balance control you need to take the control out and replace it with 2 resistors.
Because that control is going to fail. Actually it explodes. Kind of messy.
But after you change that into 2 resistors it seems like it keeps going OK.

Fwiw I had a 2007 2203x and it had Ruby Gold caps in it from the factory. I got it cheap because it had a massive hum. 3 of the 6 big black Ruby gold caps were bulging out their tops. This was last year. I replaced them all with F&Ts. I am not a fan of the Ruby gold cans for this reason. Seems to me they should have a longer life than 10 years, and maybe most do, but not in this case
