If this shot of a DSL1CR is anything to go by, there is nothing wrong with yours.
I think the speaker is off-set to balance against the weight of the transformer.

Sometimes the speaker is mounted away from the power transformer to decrease hum...
that's probably why. Another reason is that the speaker could vibrate the tubes too much if it is very closely located.

Yep. Most 1 speaker combos have the speaker offset, if not for weight distribution, for clearence of tubes, transformers..ect.

    What's the big deal?...

    Simultaneous posts..ampdude.

True, it is a lot to fit into a small package.

Additionally, there are sound wave physics that predict a single speaker in a cab will sound better offset.

I am wondering why it would matter where the speaker is mounted.

No, but you didn't make that clear in your intial post, which reads like you were just perplexed your speaker was offset, and didn't see a reason why your amp was like that..you never mentioned changing speakers once.

Would it not be mounted in the same place?

I would guess he probably wants to go bigger., which the baffle would probably have to be modified anyway..but he never mentioned that initially.

I believe the issue is small package making it hard to remove and install another speaker without dismantling half the combo.

But it is what it is.

For several reasons I will probably never buy or build another combo.

There were no chastisements in those posts. Only helpful answers to your original post.
We are always eager to help solve issues that our fellow members may experience however due to the sometimes complex nature of amps / speakers and the like clarity is of utmost importance.
Your original post in no way indicated that you were looking for advice on a speaker swap on the DSL1CR.
    A learning experience.
