Damn I LOVE this amp... 86' 2204/50w. So crisp, clear, crunchy and LOUD! Amazing the stones this thing has for only a 50 watter. This probably one of Marshall's greatest amps ever. Such a simple circuit....

Yes the 2204 is one of the best sounding amps ever made.
Which is why just about everybody copied it (insert competitor name here).

Everybody from Fender to Boogie to Bogner copied this design, and when you hear it you will know why they copied it.

It wasn't too long ago when I was bragging on my 2204 and you were saying your dsls were pretty much the same, but better. Here I have a new found repect for a properly functioning dsl, and you're loving the 2204. We have come full circle it seems..:)..but my 2204 still kills my dsl..the futtin rawk that comes out of a 2204 is hard to duplicate. And myself, I'd take a 2204 over a 2203 everytime..and I have. Rock on Adrian. Beat that bitch brother.

I still love the DSL, I'm tellin' ya, the mods made a big difference man..seriously...Hopefully one day you add a choke, and replace the O/T....you'll be sayin the same as me... But what I love about the 2204 is the simplicity...and that it's nice and light, unlike the Jube which weighs a ton...cheap to retube, and easy to work on. It also works really well with pedals and differing preamp tubes really impact the tone...I paid allot of money for this amp..probably more then I should have, but man it's worth it... I will not leave it anywhere, and when I play out with it..it'll never leave my sight. You just cannot easily replace it!

I could see where Adrian’s coming from on the dsl vs 2204. I’ve had a 83’ 2204 and currently have an 84’ 2204. I also have a 2004 jcm 2000 dsl 50 i always felt like the jcm 800 was just ok kinda like chicken and needed pedals whereas the dsl 50 has it all right there. I think I would probably prefer the late 70’s jmp 2204 . Little more warmth with the lower plate voltage.

I love me some 2204's. Less is more design and sounds like a fire breathing machine. Marshall couldn't have done it better.

    Well!

I'd bet that setup can peel the frown off of anyone and replace it with a big ole smile! :dude: Especially the guy playin' that P-90/Marshall goodness! :agreed: It don't get much better than that!
