First time for me in "Musicians Available" CL NJ.

    Getting minimal but strange calls.

Last night, I got a call from an original "Christian" band writer/guitarist.

He works at night and his wife is sick.

He has 10 songs and his singer left.

No solid band and he asked if I play bass.

    At least that's the poop.

Uh, I don't think it's going to happen.

Another opportunity is this Sunday evening's audition with a soon to be working cover band.

I'm fine with working with another lead guitarist.

    Hope there's no attitude ussues.

There were more calls.........cover band that works for charity..........uhhhhhhh, not going to happen for me.

Another original band that seems to be entrenched in playing at the "Saint" in Asbury Park, NJ.

I played the "Saint" 30+ years ago.

I remember the "Saint" gig was a Tuesday evening at 12:00 midnight and no one showed up.

    Sound familiar.

I'm not going to revisit that again.

    More soap opera time.

    Ask them to write.

CL weirdos are best filtered indirectly

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I may pull the ad soon.

I get weird reactions to me gigging at least 2x a week with different paying fill ins.

"You might be too busy and have no time to play with us"

Check out bandmix.com, I never used it but it looks interesting.

I remember playing the Saint 30 years ago too LOL. Brighton Bar, Stoned Pony, etc.

    :naughty:

...............I played at My Father's Place (Roslyn, L.I.); Heckyl & Jekyl's (somewhere out in LI); Right Track Inn in Freeport, L.I.; Max's Kansas City in NYC; Great Guildersleeves & CBGB's (the Bowery).

    OMG.

    I'm old.

    I registered with Band Mix.

I'm in NJ and get BM "alerts" for bands, as far as, California.

    BM never updates.

I'm playing with Ken Perry in one group.

It's completely different from his original posting.

Ken registered many years ago and his ad should have been removed a long time ago.

When I tell Ken about this, he laughed and said he completely forgot about Band Mix.

Some other buddies (Matt & Mark) have an ad on BM with their old band "Acoustic Fire".

    :shred2:AF broke up years ago.

The mention of gigging at The Saint gives me the chills in a bad way.

I grew up in that area so it was fun playing in those dives and going to see friends bands play in those dives and some of those national/international acts come through to play in those same places. :yesway:

Aerosmith was supposedly signed after their set at Max's Kansas City.

The Police unloaded their van (No Roadies) when they gigged at My Father's Place.

I think Living Color gigged at The Great Guildersleeves and The J. Giles Band did a live album there.

I remember The Ramones at CBGB's..................never thought they would be signed.

They were loud; sloppy and horrible.

I guess you can say that about the majority of bands that played there.

CBGB's was a place where Hilly's dog crapped everywhere and my shoes stuck to the floor in the dressing room.

    The place was a dump.

    It was FILTHY.

The roaches in that place probably turned cars and trucks over on the Bowery.

I never let my socks or bare feet touch that grungy floor.

My experience with CL for finding bands is pretty much non-existent. Doesn't really work.
I remember in da 80's before computers there were a couple music stores with bulletin boards with ads. It was much easier finding a band that way frankly and did it alot.

Yeah, CL is a cesspool of garbage.

I've complained about it so many times on this forum.

I'm going to pull the ad.

Pull your ad but keep looking for others that post there. My local GC has a huge bulletin board in the back with tons of hand written ads.

Yeah, that's it ,you don't want em contacting YOU

Its a scary proposition ,musician classifieds
I' ve scored ONE decent player ....I mean a guy that I could play with ...in 40 years ,thru classifieds
The rest has all been word of mouth / serendipity....which takes a long time

Im pretty sure I would have an easier time DATING , than I have trying to wrangle musicians thru the classifieds

Per my CL ad, I sold a MESA/Boogie Triaxis to a neckbeard guy in the parking lot of GC. After that, he went full-on stalker! Weird fucks out there.

Craigslist is a large site, so yeah, you'll get all kinds of people on there.

Don't pull your ad. You'll get many responses that are no good, but you'll also get many legitimate ones.

I've responded to many ads, and I've had many respond to mine. Some work out, some don't, and I know that going in. As long as you understand this, there's nothing wrong with posting/answering on there. There's many legitimate people too.

You can sort BandMix ads by activity. Some are years old, buy many are active. Again, you have to use your built-in filter to determine between legit/non-legit.

Been looking at some ads for drummers to find the right one that fits in with us since our old drummer moved to N.C last year. Saw this one the other day:

"Looking for powerful, virtuosic players who have a studied understanding of the past for a muscular, articulate, present-day relevant ensemble.

No metal, death metal, thrash, indie, alternative, garage, neo-psychedelia, hard rawk, punk, nu wave, shoegaze, techno, rap, retro anything or other such musically illiterate nonsense.

Must be mentally competent - no walking psycho/sociopaths.

This is for fully-formed grownups with a gift, not a calling."

My experiences with CL and bandmix are that there are a lot of bedroom musicians out there that are not very good, but once or twice a year I come across an experienced player that pans out. I have learned to be very specific in wording an ad in order to weed out the wrong players. Also, I talk to them on the phone rather than text or email after the initial contact. That helps to weed out personality problems before putting any time into working with them.

I like Bandmix. I've used Bandmix to find our latest drummer, who is working out great.

I've used bandmix for a couple local bands...like what's been said a lot of bedroom wankers...I found better luck not listing and doing local searches with specific criteria on there...

Bandmix seems to have more older mature players that might be a little more serious about playing.

Eh, both sites have their place.
