I went to his ARMS benefit show at the Los Angeles Forum. Ronnie got on stage and sang Goodnight Irene.

I didn’t know much about him at the time. But saw that he was held in very high regard by EC, JP, JB, et al... That was good enough for me. And it was rad seeing those three ledgends jamming together. Stones rhythm section was bonus:hbang:

And fund raising issues aside, they all did a magnificent job of raising awareness of MS.

Our old drummer auditioned for the ill fated Frampton / Marriott reunion
He said Frampton called him on the phone to invite him to have a go...but he could hear an enthusiastic ,Oliver Twist sounding Marriott in the background shout, "Tell'im we like the tape !"

He didn't get the gig ,they ended up goin with Frampton's choice ...some L.A. ringer ,as I understood

But as we know ,the hand o' fate stepped in and it was not to be

Ronnie lived in Austin for a number of his later years. I had the pleasure of working with him (engineering) in the studio. By that time the MS already had him in a wheel chair but he still had an incredible spark. He was an amazing talent and a lovely person. This thread was a good excuse for me to crank up "Rough Mix" again - safe travels Ronnie...

Man, one of my faves. Thanks.
I love all of the incarnations of the Small Faces, Faces, Pie, Frampton....what have you. Ronnie Lane was a badass.
