I've had the SG about a month now, but been doing a few mods, both cosmetic and today wiring. The 'Esquire' is an 18 month project, but I got the pre-painted/aged body last weekend, so there is very little left of the original 'base' (strap buttons and a few screws basically :)).

I was going to trade in my Gibson Les Paul 60s Tribute Gold Top for a new 2019 Les Paul Standard with P90s. However, having tried a couple and playing them against my Tribute I decided that it wasn't worth paying 5x what my Tribute was worth; sure it looks nicer, but didn't really sound 'better' and mine is nicely broken in so feels so comfortable.

Instead I used the money that would have paid for the new LP to upgrade all of my guitars instead: The 'new' body and various bits for the Esquire above, plus I re-wired the SG with proper full sized pots/metal braided wiring.

As I was so impressed with the locking tuners on the SG I fitted them to both my Les Pauls, plus some new aluminium stop tails and a couple of small cosmetic parts for the Epiphone to make it closer to a 1960s model. I've already fitted a new bone nut to the Gibson:

    More obvious from the back:
    Headstock rear.jpg

Re-wiring on the SG last weekend (and swapped the pickups for DiMarzio 36th Anniversary)

I'd previously put TV Jones Classic/Classic plus pickups in my Gretsch Electromatic, but today I fitted a roller bridge. The original one was a bit rattly and this one also helps with tuning stability:

    More of the Gretsch:

I've got bone nuts to fit to my Esquire and also my White Telecaster (which I also added a few small cosmetic changes to so that it's more like a '56 Tele). I've previously upgraded the pickups to Fender Original Vintage and re-wired with cloth push back wiring and new CTS pots:

Apart from the two nut jobs(!) all that is left to do is to take my Epiphone Les Paul in to get it re-freted/leveled and pro set up: It'll cost nearly as much as the whole guitar did originally (back in the mid 1990s), but with all the upgrades it sounds so good it's worth sorting it out properly.

A group photo after I fitted the 60s reflector knobs to the Epiphone LP, before I put the Tele back to white guard spec:

I think it was worth the effort: I will have 7 perfectly set up (for me) guitars for less than it would have cost me to upgrade one guitar. :)

Oh, also, I put locking period correct tuners on all of my LPSs that did not have them. I just love locking tuners!!!

After re-stringing the Gretsch last night (which is very fiddly due to the way the string end hook on the Bigsby) I'm looking for locking tuners for that guitar now. I think the ones I used on the LPs would fit, but the plastic buttons wouldn't look right, so I'm still searching.

Something to replace these (so cool that the serial number is my initials...but they all are 'KS' apparently):

Something to look like this from the front:

They're great: I prefer them to the 61T/R that was in there before; they sound clearer/more open for clean stuff, but still rock when I use the overdrive. I find I actually use the tone controls on this guitar (same with the Esquire too), even the neck one since I put the 0.015uF on that tone control.

Tce63 is right; I was playing the Esquire earlier into my Marshall Mini Jubliee earlier just to practice a few songs for tonight's gig...ended up playing far longer than I intended. :dude:

I sometimes play it through a Champ clone...one knob and a single pickup guitar, yet it's amazing how many different sounds I can get out of it.

Haven't tried the current version of the Esquire through my '64 Custom Deluxe reverb yet, but I did when it was in an earlier iteration with a Squier Tele body and all the same electrics/neck. It's more of a guitar that likes a bit of dirt though rather than a cleaner sound.
