Doug’s Tubes is great
Thanks for the great info. I ordered tubes from Eurotubes. Great customer service. Tubes in route
Wow 5 that's alot of preamp tubes, I'm used to seeing 3 or 4.
Buy a Fender...My new 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb has (6) but one is for the reverb circuit I am told.
That amp calls for all 12ax7's...even for the Reverb Driver.
If you put a 12at7 in the reverb slot, you'll loose some gain.
V2 is your heavy hitter for the Boost Channel.
Maybe you hear rumors, but I have had no problems with JJ tubes and I buy them all the time.
I don't believe there is anything wrong with them. Not only this I will keep buying them.
yes just rumors, but I´ll still be buying them untill something bad happens. Two months ago I´ve bought a KT88 quad for my major and I couldn't be happier.
5. But it has glorious overdrive so no complaints here. Also got some for my budda twinmaster.
That amp has tube reverb right, so that explains it.
You can mix preamp tubes to see which tubes sound best for you...
I dont have an 800, but for my Plexi clone, I use JJ ecc803 in v1, 7025 on V2 and PI... It added that extra girth and cleaner gain tone (not fuzzy or ear piercing high frequency) when it the amp is dimed...
Tungsol is the gainest current production 12ax7 out there...
Update: received and installed the preamp tubes from Eurotubes for the 4211/2210 Jcm 800 . Wow. what a difference in the Marshall. Its not saggy sounding any more, crisp and chimy. love it. Didn't mess with the power tubes yet and have not detected any issues so will keep them for a while longer.
The Budda Twinmaster had highend tubes from Svetlana ( Russia), Ei ( yugoslavia) with the gold tips. The JJ tubes that I installed sound good but there is a slight difference in the tone which was bright and matchless sounding which is a great sound. The new sound is tight and sounds like a Marshall and hits you in the chest. Not bad for 18 watts.
1. I wonder if the tone change is from the ECC83 S replacing the 12AX7s or the 54UG being replaced by a 54UGB?
2. would the tone change be more impacted by the el84s?
Great experience with Eurotubes. recommend them.
if you're serious about tubes, try Brendan at TubeWorld Express.
He has lots of well preserved, tested and in original boxes vintage tubes.
Some are pricey but he has some that are affordable.
Tubes made today are not made the same way when America, UK, France, Germany made them. Mainly they don't spend enough time in the "hard vacuuming process" as it takes a while and when the majors closed shop in the US they destroyed those vacuuming machines.
