i figured it was a trick question. plus, when you crank a plexi enough to get that amount of distortion, it doesnt sound like what i heard. but im using a tablet and am not getting a good representation of the video.

its my opinion that you can take just about any tube amp and make it sound just about any way you want it to sound provided you have a few gadgets like overdrives or distortions lying around.
i can get my vox ac30 to sound pretty marshally with my ocd pedal. i can also make it sound kinda fendery by turning some knobs.

If the Police came to the door, it was the Marshall. That was too easy.

Sorry MM. The recording is way bad. No matter which you're playing it sounds like doo doo.

Im going with twin, just based on the fact that you have that nice "Bwaaap" sound on the low end. I haven't heard unboosted Plexis that have that nice loose bass.

Ok. How bout I do an A/B to see if anyone can pick it from the lineup? May be a little unfair as-is

Flubby lows. Twin. You’re obviously trying to trick us. Both slaved.

Ha. Well do you want tbe A/B? I'll show the signal path into an A/B box heading to both amps. I offer it fairly and can say that: you're currently incorrect

If this is the 1987 I'm really interested in the settings and the chain.

What I'm of course aiming for is to see (fairly) if I'm correct in thinking that people generally listen with eyes and ears

Ok. A/b pedal to one amp at a time, both plexi volumes halfway up and Twin to match

    Any idea which is which?

I'm thinking Twin first, then Plexi. But that's listening to my crappy phone.
    ----------------------
You briefly panned across your pedal board. But again my crappy phone makes it difficult to freeze/frame advance to see the pedals and settings.

Both amps sound dirtier/more saturated than I'd expect with the volumes halfway up. If you're using an OD/distortion box or even a clean boost with the amps as almost-clean/light crunch platforms, that would tend to minimize/ disguise differences between the amps.

That said, it's true that our eyes and minds deceive our ears. Zep with a Supro, Hendrix with a Bassman, Cream with a Deluxe Reverb -- our minds associate Marshalls with those, so we tend to think we're hearing Marshalls.

Nice explanation. I'll tell you which is which after we have some more input

Don't worry about those pedals, they're not hooked up, just my A/B sits in that case.
