    Whats Up?

These Rat pedals just can't be beat. This must be my 7th or 8th one I owned. I always like to use some sort of drive pedal whenever I use single coil pickups into my Superlead & after many years of trying different types of ODs, distortion & Fuzz pedals, I always go back to these.

This one in particular, sounds fantastic & is an older re-issue from the early 90s.

Anyone else useing Rats with their Marshalls?

Congtrats on the new old pedal. Ive never heard of them. I have been loving my Xotic RC Booster ver 2 pedal. Works so well and does not color the amp. Rock On!!!

I have an original one I got in the 80's a friend gave to me who wasn't using it, funny thing I hardly used it through the years cuz I played solid state amps, but it is currently on my board and I like it a lot with my 2204. I find the gain useable up to 9 oclock on the dial, anything after that it becomes a fuzz pedal, but I like it a lot.

Really? Never heard of them? They were one of the small handful of pedals available back in the day before today where we have thousands to choose from. Plug into one at the store some time and see if you like it, its a $70 pedal new. I was thinking of getting a new one to compare with my old one.

I have one. I use it as a stand-alone distortion pedal on the clean channel. It is great for crunchy rhythm and massive dirty chords. Every so often I swap it out of my pedal board for a BD-2. For me, they do the same thing but differently.

I do think the the Rat has a bit more range, having the "Spirit in the Sky" fuzz in its repertoire along with the crunch/distortion.

I've had my RAT2 for a long time...it has the "woodcutter" sticker inside...wahoo!
Here it is on top of my 5010, but I really only use it with my Super 6 Reverb.

Supposedly RAT plus an old tweaked Marshall is the Metallica "Kill Em All" era sound.

I've always been curious but never tried one.

I have couple of friends who swear by the RAT ……
Lots of banter about whether the LM308 or the OP07DP makes a difference ……
I'm a Bogner Burnley fan …… Rupert Neve Transformer in that puppy may be a sales gimmick ……but it sure sounds good to me !!

RATs are my go to-gimme a LP and pretty much any clean, cranked amp and I find my basic tone and a RAT in front of a Fender kind of marries the Fender clean/Marshall dirt worlds to my ears

I had one of the first generation Rats that said tone on the filter control instead of filter, loved that pedal and foolishly sold it for the $50 I paid for it, I see people trying to sell the same pedal for $500 to $800..

I tried a large box version like yours into a Peavey Windsor halfstack, and it was the closest I've gotten to a 'Nuno' sound.

Years ago, I ran my Turbo RAT into a Sovtek Mig 50 hs.
    Killer Marshall like tone.

If anyone is really into the RAT pedal, they should check out this site, http://www.muzique.com/news/quick-rat-pedal-mod/

I've got my distortion at 9 oclock, filter at 3 oclock and volume max'd, in front of an amp set to edge of breakup and you got a real nice crunchy tone. :yesway:
