Distortron or Supro Drive
The two best drive pedals I have ever used are the Keeley moded Blues Driver and the B K Butler tube driver.
OK...I didn't listen to the John Mayer clip however I just learned yesterday of the new pedal release from Freidman called the Golden Pearl. This link takes you to Friedman's explanation of the pedal and it's functions. Pete Thorn also has a demo out now.
I like the available options and the sounds.

Personally I like the OCD pedal. I find it very versatile and it has a very simple layout. Sometimes simple is better. Too much adjustments are really only for your ear. If gigging your audience won't notice. Amp settings are crucial when talking about a specific sound like that you are seeking to achieve. Good luck in finding your sound.
I have OCD Boss compression/sutainer A Boss Distortion pedal, 2 distortion channels in the Marshall and the two distortion channels on a Fender. I can usually find a sound with one or more of those.
JEH & chromeboy: What is you method for tweaking your
amp with the OCD? Most advice I've seen about setting an amp is to first, get the amp to the point of crunch without the OCD engaged, then tweaking the amp's e.q. and last, dial in the OCD.

My friend has a couple he let me try, Double trouble and the bes one ive ever used so far was his Joyo ultimate drive. He said its a clone of the OCD pedal iver never tried a real one but the ultimate drive on the clean channel of my Fender super champ turns that little thing into a beast.
Ide get an OCD but there are so many versions
ignore the corksniffers.
ToneBone has worked very well for many professionals. The older model sells cheap. Get the 16 Volt adapter.
