Hello, new member here. I know it's a bit early to talk mods on these, they aren't even shipping in large numbers yet it seems, but I've had my 50w head about two weeks and I'm curious about possible mods already.

I bet some people (such as myself) would like to make these amps more jtm45/100 sounding, they are much brighter, like later models.

    Any input is appreciated!

    It is predictable!

I'm just very used to the jtm sound, but the origin drew me in with it's power scaling and smaller lighter weight.

I can't say I have too many complaints though, so I'm more curious here than in a rush to tear the thing apart.

I put a 220 pf cap across the Tilt pot right and middle legs looking from the back I believe (Ill have to double check when I have her open). It thickens the tone and makes it not sooo thin/brite. I would say its closer to the JTM tone IMO.

Interesting. What is this doing exactly, just rolling off some treble?

This kind of mod seems adventurous, do you have enough knowledge to say if the 50 can be set up with 6l6s?

To me it seems its rolling of some of those upper high freq without sounding dead. I used to run the tilt at 3 and can now run it at 5-6 and sounds really full and with a Creamback it sounds more old school to ne. I did have 690 pF in it but it was too much. Its simple to do but the EQ board must come out which is rather simple.

Im not sure about putting 6L6s in it and what it would take.

I'm betting this thing has a massive bright cap on the bright side of the tilt setting, but since it's likely on the board, rather than the volume pot like vintage amps, I got no clue where to look. I was thinking of starting with just reducing this value, if I can figure out which one it is!

I like that, and I just bought a 220pf cap , is it the middle and right lesgs of the tilt pot, holding the amp upside down? thanks

Update - The interesting thing with my Origin is that after several months of use, I felt it was now too dark, really? So, I removed the cap across the mid pot and now have what appears to be slightly briter tubes in her, EHs. Sometimes I wonder if amps change or our hearing changes??

I have the same experience with my Origin 20C.
It was very bright from the beginning.
I do not use the internal speaker but runs it through a well broken in 1 * 12 Greenback

Just like "marshalldog" said I took out the circuit board with the pots on it flipped it over soldered a 220 pico farad cap on the center pin and the left one, of tilt pot, It really tames the highs, It took only 30 minutes to do, sounds so much better

Richard if I have missed it/ or didn’t, Welcome to the forum brother, I like the highs in mine and I shall keep it that way, but thanks for sharing your information on a fine amp! Cheers Mitch

I feel like my amp broke in a couple of months ago. It lost its icepick highs and sounds amazing with my pedals. Im loving this amp more and more. The stock speaker is great as well. The amp sounds huge and easily keeps up with my bandmates bassman with a 4x12.

sounds like someone needs to incorporate this into a switching system to suit our fancy. and also install the switch without drilling the chassis. also needs a standby switch. without drilling. and i don’t think i am being unreasonable. where are the amp techs when you need them? oh the humanity!

That’s what happened with mine! It’s amazing! Mines all stock except the speaker and tubes.

I just picked up an origin 20. My amp guy is adding a tube based gain stage and a standby. Since this isn't anything rare, I really don't care about holes being drilled into this amp.

As of last night, I have removed the SD1 from the front of my origin 50H, and I am only using the mxr 10 band eq, I did this while playing my V with the dirty fingers pick ups, and I was only in the mid power section, amp volume at 4, should have made a clip, but we didn’t! Cheers Mitch

I think that those would be a great addition to the amp, I did find that the more you play it the better it becomes, mind you I am still socking cash away for some quality speakers! Cheers Mitch
