Since I've finally rebuilt my callouses, I've set a goal to learn or relearn one song a day. I'm starting easy because I dont have the speed or strength that I used to have, but I'm getting bored and need some suggestions. Punk, grunge, classic rock... whatever I can muster at the moment. I've already plowed through ACDC, and some other basic essentials. I'm basically brain farting on what I should go for next. Seriously. I've been playing Rage Against the Machine "Killing in the Name" for the past hour. Please. Send help.

Bored? Get a job you slacker!

You should never be bored! You're either working or you're playing guitar, there's no room for boredom!

Just remember one thing, when you are playing guitar play it loud and proud. :yesway:

I have a job. A mentally and physically exhausting, 60hrs a week job that I'm finally getting back to... same as finally getting back to playing!

Now that we've got that out of the way, when you get home from the 60 hour work week plow through this one, its fun to work on, the rhythms and solos:

My brain does not work that way. I have never learned a song in one day.

I do not know if that is a bad or a good thing.

Go for some Steve Vai, John Petrucci or Joe Satriani. That should keep you fired up as long as your endurance lasts!

I think it's a healthy way to learn a song every day.

Get the rolladex in your head going.

    Never stay pat.

There's nothing wrong with learning to play any song whether it's Hot For Teacher or Happy Birthday.

    I'm currently preparing/learning 3 or 4 songs a day for a fill in gig on May 10.

There's 58 songs on their play list.

I have almost 40 learned now.

I think we'll do around 55 songs in 3 sets.

    It's doable.

It's party songs from Springsteen to Van Morrison to The Beatles.

Some of the stuff may be considered sappy but people want to hear it.

IMO, you don't have to know something note for note.

Just get the signature licks and make it recognizable.

I'm currently viewing the "How To Play" lessons on You Tube...........but WTF............the guitarists in Lynyrd Skynyrd are playing Free Bird differently every time I hear a live version?

I don't know......but they're playing the signature melodies and putting a spontaineous spin on the song.

    That's the personal touch.

OK, now here I go being Mr Pentatonic.:locked:

I'm such a gear nerd..........."You May Be Right" (Billy Joel), I'm using my EH Lester K............"The Wander"(Dion), I'm using trem fx, "Into The Mystic" (Van Morrison, I'm using more reverb and delay, "Jenny Jenny" (Tommy 2 Tone), I'm using a mild OD.............time to use at least 3 guitars and my Top Hat 2x12 Ambassador 35 watter.:agreed:

    Pop music.

    The older adult group stuff.

    Play for people with money.

Get the brain; heart and fingers going.
