    on CL a clean 1960AV for 300
    Or
    A clean jcm800 lead 1960slant cab with vintage 30s for 300

    Or are they the same...lol

Btw I’m still looking at 1960tv for 550 but can’t seem to get time to get to see it (it’s about an hour away)

And also waiting for a 1960bx to turn up

I would think that the 1960AV has the Marshall version of the Vintage 30's where the JCM800 would have the standard Celestion Vintage 30. From what I remember in some of the threads about the different variation of Vintage 30, there are subtle differences.

If the sellers can tell you the T numbers, you can find out which version V30s they are.

    Thanks guys
    Just went back and checked.
The first one is a 280w
    The second is 300w

So that would be 70w version speakers and 75w speakers.
Next question...is the older vintage 30 (75w) the same as the 75w speakers that are in the early 80s Marshall cabs?
    If so I have a straight cab with 75s and I don’t like it/them.

Totally off. V30 is 60 watts, Marshall rates theirs at 70.
Has nothing to do with the 300 watt tag on the 800 series cabinet.
The V30 speakers aren't original to that cab, it had G12 75's when it was made.

The only way is to play through both cabs and see which one sounds better to you.

All this has been discussed ad nauseum in regards to the many "V30" variations.
I would spend some time searching and reading.
V30 are completely different than any G12 75, early or modern.

    Give the links.
Any AV has Marshall Vintage unless the wrong tag was placed on the cabinet. We need pictures to verify.

And Marshall Vintage are 70 watt speakers.

300 watts with V30's does not add up. I'd ask for pics of the speakers.

The JCM800 cab will be all PLY and the 1960AV will be MDF. For that reason alone, I'd go with the JCM800, but I don't mind flipping speakers.

You know better than that 67...all 1960 cabs are ply. always have been.
Only the back panels were changed to chipboard in late 1970/early 1971.

Perhaps you meant the back panel and baffle trim , logo mount, etc, which did go to
    chipboard in the 80s.

Which one are you talking about? The jcm800?

I realize that the best way to know is to try them but they are in 2 different directions each about an hour away and the band is on the road traveling this weekend so my weekend is out. I have limited opportunity to grab one....I may get a free night next week so I want to get the best bet figured and just go for one.

I thought they have been making them out of MDF since the 2000's with only a ply front baffle?
Am I confused or just a dummy? I'll turn in my Marshall card, now.

But, I do know my 425A is MDF sides and back with a ply front baffle, and my JCM800 is all ply with
MDF back panel, only. Hell, I better check again...ha!

Only one picture of each. One may have had a speaker swap. The other with the Vintage tag should have this jack plate unless it was swapped.

Ask for pictures of the back and speakers inside.

Well honestly, I have only had cabs up to around 2000, but other than the 1936, I am pretty sure they are all ply
except the back, to this day.
I am surprised if, indeed, the Vintage Modern cabs are MDF sides. Would like to verify that, for future reference. It would make for one helluva heavy 4x12...

Mods please delete my post#8, I do not want to spread any false information about 1960 cabs.

I checked last night, and my purple 425A is indeed made from ply for the front, top, bottom and sides
with only the back being MDF. I guess it was the overspray that threw me off, as my cab has quite a bit.

Since it's already been quoted in the following post, we might as well leave it up … besides, you figured it out pretty quick, so I don't think you're spreading any misinformation.

For what it's worth, I think the best 'new' cabinet construction is probably found in the HW's. Between the two listed in the OP, if I was going to purchase one of them blind, I'd go w/the JCM800 cab. I've never liked the TV's, so that would be last on my list of any Marshall cabinet.

Ok, this was my contribution to this sub-forum for the year … see you in 2018!

    -WTF-
-why is everyone hating on the TV CAB?-
-the only negative I find with them, gotta turn the amp up a little more to hit the speakers sweet spot but the volume is about the same, i have yet to hear one that's boomy, but then again I had a 8 x12. Full of old greenbacks & love bass you can feel...
-the HENDRIX TV 4X12 with the 12C's might be the greatest Marshall cab ever...

-ill take all the ORPHAN TV CABS y'all don't want-

Sounds good. I haven’t heard back from the jcm800 guy so I’ll probably grab the 1960av cab. Traveling with the band this weekend so if it’s still there on mon it’s mine!
