A pair of EVM 12S for 65$! I'll take that deal any day. Granted they were 130 first. Negotiation is key. Good news, they work. Hooked them up to my HiFi system. They seem to be worked on, there is residue of green glue around the spider and the front gasket. I don't care personally. They are guitar speakers, not HiFi. They just need to take the power and sound good. Weather it's the same as from the factory or somewhere in that range, I'm not all that picky.

Planing to do a Hiwatt build for them. I heard that these ones come close to the sound of the old fane purple-back 4x12. Well at least that's what Dan from That Pedal Show said. They weight a TON. They are hard to transport but the construction is by far much more sturdy that the regular stamped frames. Really interested in how they sound in the 4010, compared to the G12-65 and G12M70.

Your thoughts on them? Any experience? I'm not all that big on preamp gain, what about a hiwattish 2xEl84 with big iron?

The best guitar speaker ever made.
The cone must move in out freely without scraping. (move cone in / out by hand and test).
If the speaker scrapes when it moves, it's blown.
If the speaker is blown, EV will rebuild it for you.

A good EVM usually sells for about $125-200.

It's much more efficient than other speakers, and doesn't saturate like a British speaker does.
And yes, besides guitar these are used in PA and Hi Fi.

Checked it, no scraping, no wired noises, all looks good. Really happy with the buy.

    Great score.

Do report back on what they sound like in the 4010.

No! Those speakers are too heavy! You might hurt your back ! Send them over here instead, just to be safe.

I am always looking out for your safety.

Compare them to a celestion which would the EVs sound like?

Great speakers, and especially for a 1x12 combo like a 4010! I had a 1x12 JMP50 combo briefly, and the EV12 was the best fit that I found.
No other speaker was able to still give up that chug like the EV12. The G12-80 was a close second.

The EVM does not saturate like a Celestion.
The upper mids are very clear and hi fi sounding.
The speaker is louder compared to other speakers.

When I tried the EVM for the first time, I was hooked on it permanently.

Many people have called the EVM the best guitar speaker ever made.

Well guys, finally got to it! It was a pain to fit it in there. At first I thought it wouldn't fit because of the output tranny was in the way. Turns out that there is 5mm clearance. And I had to get new screws, since the one used with celestions were too short. The EVM has a thicker outer rim.

The cleans are one of the best cleans I have heard. Not like a fender, with the missing mids but full and rich. I used a Strat and turned the volume pot down a bit to reduce the highest of highs, and got that creamy jazzy sound that I love so much. Now that's with a Marshall! Imagine if I used a much better clean amp!

Switch to the bridge pickup and crank the gain and it just sings! Cristal clear, punchy and not like it's on the verge of blowing up. No matter how much Master Vol I used it just kept giving and giving and it didn't cave in, not once. I just can't stop grinning.
Now, I understand why people say it's a bit sterile, the EVMs certainly have a bit less character than the G12-65 but still. I find it much easier to control. No nasty piercing highs, just smooth sailing! Now I haven't played a 4x12 but these things put out so much low-end man, they punch the gut sooo hard it's beyond impressive.

I'm overjoyed with them. I can't wait for next spring to make a proper 2x12 for a Hiwatt-ish build. I think I'll keep the 65 in the 4010. It fits it better. Just need to find another speaker for it to be able to crank it. But till then, the EVM's staying in the 4010.

Hope it helps, to who ever finds this post.

I thought this thing was heavy before. Now? I ain't moving it on my own.

G12-65 vs EVM 12S. The EVM dwarfs the celestion. Both in size and in sound!

The snug fit in the combo. It's tight, but it fits!

    Like, 1992...
I called Sam Ash and asked for a really good speaker.
The sales guy told me to try EMV. It was like $160 each and I bought a pair.
I built the factory recommended cabinets, and commenced.
After that, I never thought any other speaker sounded as good.

I am totally stoked on that speaker.
Although it does weigh 22 pounds per speaker, slight drawback.

Is that the stock right angle power cord? Where can I get one? I like that. Awesome EVM too. Thinking about trying one in my JVM 1x12 combo.

Digi-Key, Mouser, Newark and Allied all sell the right angled cordsets.

I'm not sure. I think I got the powercord off a computer monitor.
I whole hartedly recommend these to anyone using a 1x12 combo.
