I was hoping I could get some help from all of the smart Marshall folks here.

I was checking out a 1985 Marshall JCM 800 Lead Series and would like to know if you folks could tell me if anything looks as if it was modified or changed out of this amp.

The one thing I did notice, it looks to me like the filter caps (I believe) have dried out due to all the white residue on the unit along with the rust on them. And I was also wondering about the green and orange wires coming from I believe the OT wired to the resistors. If I recall when I built my 50 Plexi clone this is where you would be measuring to set the bias. My question on that is, do they look like the wiring has been changed or is it original.

Thank you very much in advance.

Shouldn't an 85 have drakes?.my 87 did.one fuse holder's siliconed in, guess they lost the nut or stripped it...and look at all the shrink tubing where the wires have been spliced...definitely been messed with. I'd buy it for $500, but if they're asking the going rate I'd look elsewhere.

The amp was taken apart, for what reason I cannot know.
    It's kind of sloppy...

    Thank you both.

    Keep them coming.

    They are asking around 1,100.

One or both of those trannys could have been changed because they are not Drakes and all the wires are zip tied together. I believe the wires were originally tired together with small black rubber rings which leads me to the conclusion they were cut off to allow a transformer change out.

Here’s a pic of mine, made 4 months after OP’s, rubber rings and Drake iron. The factory wiring is considerably neater.

FYI, the more I look at those pics, the PT and OT both look shinier than the choke. I believe they are not original.

If it still sounds good its maybe worth 600.00 - 800.00 bucks if everything else is in good shape IMO!

Thank you all for helping me save my money!!!

Unfortunately I would not be able to play the amp before purchase so I will pass.

Also Chris, thank you for pics that show how it should look so hopefully I will not have ask this question again.
