I'm looking for some gold piping for a 1964 style JTM45 build to fit between the black and white sections on the front panel. It's not the easily available 'gold string in clear plastic' piping, it's either like the 'T' section shiny gold plastic 'strip' as is used on the front an AC30 but narrower, or, gold coloured shiny plastic tadpole piping. I believe both were used. Also, it's not the round piping that's used on the cabinet shoulders. If you know of a supplier, or particularly if you have some to sell me then please PM me direct. Many thanks.

I got some solid brass piping with right dimensions no plastic around but it looks good. I used it for my latest Clubman built.

Got it from Ray in the US

Try this website for Mojotone, they have a few different styles plus the small rope piping in gold. Not sure what else would be needed??

For the thin gold string Vox wire has best gold color!

Here's how to make your own.

Get some gold tinsel piping. You can get it from mojotone.

Get some ultra clear 1/8" heat shrink tubing. (3m makes it)

Take a length of it and carefully cut the plastic so you can extract the gold tinsel string.

Thread the tinsel thru the heat shrink tubing. Use heat to shrink it.

You now have gold string piping that looks far more authentic than what you can normally find. Install it in the groove as normal,
and it can be retained better with the aid of some glue.

    @MarshallDog and @Matthews Guitars

The op is not talking about gold string, he is talking quite specifically about the plastic beading with round lip that was used on early JTM45s (split front and first all black heads in 65) across the front of the head cabs.
Mojo do not do it. The Vox equivalent is wider and has bigger tongue.
Nearest stuff if you cannot get the plastic stuff is bass fretwire (the stuff Pleximaster was sent).

Compare the top 3 here with the bottom one:

Thanks guys, so I'm looking for wide, brass (?) bass guitar fretwire? Who supplies it? Who is Ray? Many thanks!

Thanks, I've been in touch with Ray, he seems a very helpful, knowledgeable guy.

That looks pretty much exactly like what's on my '74 Superlead, that I asked about a while back. Right down to the hollow construction.

It's aluminum, apparently, with a gold toned plastic coating. At least that's what's on my '74.

As of now I'm beginning to question if my head cabinet might not be from much earlier. It seems like its trim details would be correct for pre 1970.

Well, I know there's something funny about it because the back panel that came with it is for a 50 watt amp. But the headshell is a vented 100 watt type.

I'm sure that I know a company that would be able to duplicate it from a pristine sample but minimum order quantities would probably be in thousands of feet.

Brass bass fretwire? I didn't know there was such a thing. I'd expect it to wear away too quickly .

But you could get bass fretwire from Stewart-MacDonald or Dunlop (and other guitar supply companies) and for an extra fee have a shop gold plate it for you. However, the tang of the fretwire isn't very long. You basically could not install it over tolex as you'd have almost zero tang engagement in the wood underneath.

Dohh. This JTM45 build has been kicking around as a half started project for so long I forgot that I bought what I believe to be the correct, original stuff off a guy many years ago. It even has grip wedges on the piping tail to make it stay in the groove. See photos attached. DSCN1723.JPG DSCN1725.JPG

AMS - this is the gold tadpole that you staple to the edge of the gearbox, not the front trim. I apologise if I did not make myself clear to the ‘reader’in my post above about the difference in gold piping and front panel trim.
The post Immediately above yours looks like the OP actually has the dead on correct stuff so it is all good!!
