It's new 50 watt amp day! Scored a DSL 50w. It had been at a nearby shop for a few months and I finally got it for a price I was willing to pay.

It's a 2005 and in excellent condition. Got it home, pulled the chassis, cleaned her up bow to stern, and installed all new tubes, wall to wall. Biased her up and she's a beast!

    Post cleanup:

It would be a bit difficult to give you a true comparison review. The 100HR has been at my band's practice space since last Spring when I got it. I have it running through a quad of 65w Creambacks and haven't really played it through the other cabs that my other amps are going through.

I can say that the 100HR is voiced lower, but not in a bad way. Just different. I bought it specifically for gigging because of the dual Master controls, switchable FX loop, and 6 button footswitch. It's as close to a perfect gigging amp a rock guy can get in my opinion. It still has the Marshall snarl but there is something about the original JCM 2000's that I still prefer. That top end "glass" that kisses your ears is not as present on the 100HR. It's also got an MDF cabinet which I find a little annoying. There are no screw "sleeves" on the rear panel so the MDF starts falling apart at the first turn of the screws. I got mine for $699 new, factory sealed, so for that I have no real complaints.

I like it. I just finished recording with my DSL100 tonight. It's my most used amp.
    I would like a 50 watter though.

    Hijack away! ha.

I used Electro-Harmonix power and preamp tubes. I didn't have the patience to tube roll and dick around. It sounded so good when I fired it up that I didn't feel compelled to keep tweaking. Eventually you have to just cut the cord and play, so that's where I found myself. I have Ruby (Shuguang) power tubes and JJ preamp tubes in my other JCM 2000s, and they sound very good as well.

I had a DSL50 and hated it, you have both so I'm curious how they compare. I didn't like the shared EQ on the DSL50 could never dial in both channels without screwing up the other, and the amp was too compressed sounding overall.

I think it's best to think of the JCM2000's as four different amps and don't channel switch, Set up for whatever mode you are in and go for it. Some people do switch though and get away with it.
