Does anybody here own a newer Mexican built Charvel So Cal or San Dimas?
I've been looking at a black So Cal with ebony fretboard. I'd love to hear any first hand opinions.

I don't own a mexi, but I've owned a jap,and an Indo. I've played a mexi and a USA and I think they are all high quality guitars that play well. I myself wouldn't hesitate to buy a mexi Charvel, but that's just my own personal opinion. Ymmv. Tce63 just pulled the trigger on a new Charvel.

If people who have purchased these guitars are happy with the quality at this price point.

A lot of players said they were happy with the new Charvel and the new Suhr.
If you haven't played Suhr, you should try that too.
Those Suhr guitars are the same form-factor type guitar as the Charvel.

Does Suhr sell a guitar at the $900 price point? I'll have to look into it. I really like the idea of the ebony board on the blacked out So Cal.

I have a Charvel Pro mod made in Mexico 2018 and it plays just as well as my American fender, great guitars.

I have a Pro Mod San Dimas Style 1 HT that I bought 2nd hand. It is a 2016 model with the JB/'59 combo.
    I can highly recommend them.
The neck is a bit thicker than I was used to with previous (pre-Fender) Charvels, but it feels great.
The pickup selector gives mostly coil split options using a push/pull volume pot.
Forward: Neck HB ('59), Middle: Inner coils, Back: Bridge HB (JB).
Pulling the volume gives coil splits, with outer coils in the middle position.
    Extremely versatile.
The materials and finish are excellent.

The only slight problem I had with it was it came with a single string tree for e+B, and there was an above-the-nut resonance on the D+G strings when the open string was played.
Basically the break angle was too low, and winding the strings to the bottom of the tuning posts would have helped, but negated the point of the locking tuners.
So I installed 2 Graph Tech Black TUSQ string trees, and the problem is fixed.
I string it with 10-46 at the moment, and the nut accepts the heavier gauge just fine. (factory set is 9-42)

Also have a 2018 Pro Mod in white. It's a great guitar for the price. Mine is pretty temperamental to temperature changes. Having a floyd can be a challenge. Sometimes mine gets muddy requiring amp knobs to be fiddled with. The JB in the bridge position split or not is killer.

I've read a couple of times that the Mex Charvels weighed a bit less than the previous US and MIJ runs, I'd be curious if any MIM owners here can weigh theirs (not that a pound or so one way or another should matter) so we could compare and confirm/debunk that...but even so, I'm sure they're still worth the asking price and then some, great super strats! I've been tempted now several by the newer natrual looking models (that matte black and the unfinished ash version with chrome hardware) and also the light green san dimas (ala the early run "seasick" color).

Love my Chinese charvel (in my avatar pic) so I’d have to guess the mexi are even better. Wish mine had ebony though, my Schecter has it and I like it better than rosewood.

I had a red Japanese and a white Mexican so cal. Both were great. True hot rod strat style guitars. Well made. Fire breathers. I had no complaints.
