So I always like to mix things up a bit so I decided to retolex my little monster. I did the slant cab about two years ago and now I just finished the head and bottom cab. Like all retolex jobs it wasn't easy but I love the results. My only regret was not ordering enough red tolex to do all the cabs and head at once. If you look closely you can see the slants red is slightly darker then the rest. Same supplier but still a different shade. Something to keep in mind in the future. Nonetheless here she is. Feel free to compliment or complain.

Looks nice,...good job! :thumb: I can’t see any difference in the red in those pics, but then again I don’t see so good period! :D

    Cool looking stack!

@Drinkingdeath01 : My eyes could be off, but there seems to be a little tear at the front to the left of the top cabinet. If it is a little tear, I think it should be an easy fix.

Overall it looks like a good job. The choice of red looks good (I see what you say about slightly different shade of red, but for me it would not be a huge concern). If it were me, I'd be happy with the results, but what matters more is your opinion.

Thanks for sharing the pics and story.

Thank each and everyone of you for your compliments. Your right though, there is a small tear in the top cab. I did the slant about two years ago but the damn thing sounded so good I just had to jam on it with some friends. That ole girl has seen the bed of my truck more then once.

I don't abuse my gear but I will take it out and play on it like it should be.

My wife, God bless her, shes a perfectionist. She wants to fix everything and anything. The logo on the bottom cab has a lagging L on it, but that's how it came from the factory so I fought tooth and nail with her to leave it as it is.

My philosophy is retolex but still rock on it, we're not building museum peices here. Gear needs to be played and played hard.

I wasn't sure why you were dissatisfied with the job....it looks great to my eyes, and whilst I also saw the small tearing, I imagine that would be easily remedied.
    Looks great!

Great work! I’m one who likes to do whatever I can myself (but smart enough to know my limitations) so I have respect for others that do the same. It doesn’t even have to be perfect (not saying yours isn’t), but just the fact that someone tried is a huge accomplishment.

Cabs look great and re-tolexing is not necessarily an easy task. Nice job - you should be proud of your work!

Looks AWESOME! Tolex is one of the few things I will NOT do, lol. I could spend a year on it and it would still look like jeans after they were mashed into a hamper wet and left to dry for 3 months.

Looks good and will look even better under stage lights. I think red tolex stacks was introduced to give the illusion of filling the stage, I may be wrong though, but they do it well.

Looks fantastic!! How did you get the plastic corners off without breaking them? I want to retolex my 1960a cab but figure I’ll need to replace them. They don’t come off so easy...

I have yet to find a way to get them off without breaking them too. I just always buy new corners, rivets and piping before I start. I've tried and with some success, used the piping again but its so cheap its easier to just replace it. Amplified parts has everything you need. Make sure to share some pics with us when your finished.

Thank you everyone again for the compliments. I'm glad everyone enjoys it.
