Expensive...and can't you just buy 2 and only use the 40uf?

it's just that it's a specialty amp & I'd like to keep it as vintage as possible...

the red x, is the one I already changed above.

I'm not sure what the schematic is...
Buy 2X F&T can caps, buy 2X capacitor clamps, 50 uF won't make any difference.
The clamps will fit (screw mount) in the original rivet holes.
The price of that can cap from CED is a rip off. There is no justification for that. Those guys are gouging and I won't give them my money.

Mallory caps are going to be old and you don't want to install old "NOS" caps. (which are basically old expired trash).
Buy new caps and install them w/ capacitor clamps.

What you are doing: you are doing it the hard way.
Attaching too much importance to "40 uF" and too much importance to "Mallory."
just install 50 uF, get some good fresh new caps like F&T or JJ.

You are beating yourself up for nothing.

Since it is a single value can, you could just use the metal housing and gut the insides...then place a 40uf capacitor inside the can.
So it would function correctly, but still look vintage.
