    Ahhh, the tyranny of distance!!
I do miss Sydney a bit, having arrived there and stayed for 5yrs before moving North.
Have come to love the tropics although it does know how to get warm, of course.
Many thanks for the welcome John, and everyone! :) :band:

    Welcome!

Is it true, that the #1 cause of death in Australia is by Funnel Web Spider? I saw a video showing how they will lay at the bottom of swimming pools, just waiting to bite someone. Pure evil!

Well.....the thing about Funnel Webs, lies mostly in the fact that they WILL kill anyone, stone dead, in a lot less than an hour. The Sydney Funnel Web especially is a bad mofo. The other variants, not much nicer.
A combo of massive aggression, uber toxic venom and very long fangs, speed of striking- it makes you check your shoes, esp if they've been left outside overnight, one of their fave places. Gardeners need to be watchful, as their web structures (shaped like ingoing funnels) are easily missed if you're not being mindful of them. Gloves essential, but they won't often save you from a bite.
I'm under-doing it here, really, and yet, having lived in Sydney for 5yrs, and I'd for 32yrs now, I've only seen 2 in the wild, as it were. As with snakes, yes, we have most of the world's worst, nastiest bastards known, and whilst I've met a Taipan or 2, in the wild I wouldn't gave seen more than 10 snakes in all of those years.
Sharks, we've got those too, and up where I live, saltwater crocodiles are endemic and super-massive, of course.
In truth, without basic common sense, it could be dangerous here, under the right circumstances- the reality is you would need to have your guard diwn majorly to get into trouble, and mostly, be in the wrong place doing the wrong things etc.
    The swimming pool thing?
They can be found in the skimmer boxes of pools, having wandered in and become stuck- they're not really happy with water. I'd have to check 're the #1 status, but know for a fact how venomous the FWS is, and without anti-venine, 30 to 40 minutes is about all you've got...a lot less if very young, very old or health-compromised in some way.
It is, very very lovely here, and in all honesty, many Aussies trade on the nasties here, just for a chuckle...they are real enough but to be considered really quite lucky to see, say, a python in the wild.
So, you'll be popping down under for a few weeks soon, I hope!! :)
Apols for very long post....all non Marshall business, too!

Damn! Sounds a little like living in Florida. A friend of mine lost his daughter, when a 10' gator grabbed her off from the shore. Lake Jesup has so many gators, it's impossible to visit the lake without seeing them. They grow as large as 14 feet!
