I was just dropping about town. Some clown told me my gas cap was off-that is a WHOLE other story. I go by Positively Records. They have 4 cds for $20. I peruse the 'off" bin. This bin has THE STRANGE-Soundtracks,humor, JAZZ, Blues, Crooners.......

I've decided to go commercial. Why should I carry the torch? Slash and Axl are cashing in. I have REAL talent. PAY ME. I've been "pounding" the HITS. Carole King+Carpenters+Carly Simon+-----female singers know how to move the needle. I need some gentle male infuence.

    I look . Mingus....No I have 20 Mingus albums-----------------Coltrane------NO! I must resist. They don't sell enough seats. Vocals------here we go. Babs Streisand......Rita Coolidge....Bette....NO! I need some male influence........

YES! Neil Diamond The Greatest Hits-1966-1992- $8.99-----Cds in the Off bin cost more....they are GOLD!
    Burt Bacharach's Greatest Hits- $4.99
    and THE MOTHERLODE

    Barry Manilow-Ultimate Manilow-$4.99

I remember listening to Mandy through my sister's door in the 70's. Barry knows melody.

The owner, Mitch, cuts me a break. I'm a GREAT customer/guy.
    "Give me $14."
"Thanks Mitch. Can you order the first Dicks and AngelWitch cds for me?"
    "Sure."

He looks them up. These cost $$$$$.
"They will be in on Thursday. $25 for both."
I hand him a $10 bill for deposit.

    "Thanks Mitch. See you soon."

I get into the Dodge mini. Put in Barry....

    OH MANDY...........
Time to hit the music. Mommy needs some gold.

Having been a kid in the seventies, I grew up with the music of all three in fairly regular rotation. Ain't nothing wrong with great songwriting, even if it's not considered cool to like certain songwriters/artists. And I'm sure much of the music I absorbed in my youth has found its way subliminally into the stuff I do today.

I drove around yesterday in my work van. I work with the mentally ill. We listen to Manilow. #33 kept saying "OHhhhhhhhhhhh my favorite song." This does not happen when I play Reign in Blood.........................food for thought.

Big fan of Neil Diamond, and Carol King, all those great songwriters from that era..But I can't stand Barry Manilow. I didn't like him then, and don't like him now!

He would be one of those in which I would tape his pic to the front of my dart board..
