Hey Gang, Been a long time since I posted in here. I just put an out of state JCM 800 2203X on layaway and I had some questions. The one I have on hold was made in 2007. How are the effects loops in these? Have they been redesigned over the years or are they the same loop from start to present? I'm just trying to prepare myself.

If anyone has info to other design changes that would be great to hear about! I hope that with a reissue it's one of those things where is not had a lot of revisions but you just never know these days.

Also, Has anyone replaced a Marshall effects loop with a Metropoulis zero loss effects loop? If so did the inputs line up exactly with the existing send and return jacks on the amp?

    Thanks in advance!

I love my 2203x. I think the reissues use the same FX loop design. Generally, I have been very happy with the FX loop in my 2203x and 1987xl.

Currently having a strange issue with mine. Please see my thread. Took amp apart tonight and saw that my v2 was blown and my tech had done the hum balance mod to it. Will be taking some measurements tomorrow.

Overall though, the 2203x is a great amp.

    Thanks for your reply!
I’m glad to know that you love the amp! :)
I’m hoping for the same outcome.
I plan on mainly using reverbs and delays in the loop. Have you noticed any tone loss or what people call tone suck, lol. I’m still not sure what the symptoms of that are exactly but I do believe it exists.

I’ll be sure and check out your thread!

I never heard anything bad about the 2203x loop. You can order the zero loss with the inputs detached so you can line them up with your amp's current holes and hard wire them.

My only complaint with my 2203X is it's extremely loud. It has a nice pure even tone though.

I'm happy with the loop in the 2203x. I installed a Metro loop in my JTM45, which is also an excellent loop circuit, but I doubt you'd hear any significant difference in the two.

Thanks so much for another vote of confidence with 2203x! :)

I’m glad I put it on layaway and didn’t let it get away! Also thanks for being to chime in on the Metro Loop!

I have had mine for 16 years.I love it.All your heros tones on tap.If for some reason you don't like the loop, rest assured that all your effects will sound great into the front end.Congrats!
