How's the 600? Is it a pro level amp. When were they discontinued and whats a fair price for a JCM 600 head?

There are a few YouTube clips of JCM 600s. They don't sound bad, but you really can't judge from those videos.

I watched a few and they sound ok. What I don't understand is if they are "all tube" then what makes them inferior? What separates good from great?

I had one for a bunch of years. Although I never experienced any heat related problems, there are lots of overheating reports. The transformer on mine finally went.

They were budget priced amps, and designed and built as such - mine was $500 in 1997.

Sounded like a friggin' monster, IMO.

I'm thinking of picking one up. The ones I've seen are still around $500. Seems a bit much though. Would they be considered a amp for hi gain?

from what Iv'e heard they are good clean to crunch sounding amps. I have also read that by patching a cable in the effects loop and turning up the loop level control can increase the oomph.
Never owned one, just passing on what I've read about them.

Depends on what you consider "high gain."

Does the FX loop patching only apply to the 600?:hmm:
