Hey all, can I get your opinion on the JCM 2000 super lead head? Have an opportunity to buy it used with the MC412 cab. Thanks

    I think you meant MG412?

The amp is pretty good, the cab is practically worthless.

Great amp if it doesn't suffer from the thermal meltdown /3 mile isle syndrome. The cabs ok, if it has some decent speakers they're usable..mdf..and the lowest tier cab they make but if it's $100 wtf.

Keep in mind mg cabs are smaller than a full size head however, and a Dsl head will hang off the ends...and look stupid.

Go try it out. play it. Does it sound good to you? Make the decision.
There is only one thing we can inform you about your potential purchase. If it is a pre 2005 then there could be a "bias drift" issue. If it is a post 2005 then it should be fine.

Look at serial number on back...if it is 2001 or later...the amp will have none of the early heat issues.

Jcm 2000 dsl is great amp.

The speaker cab isnt great...but try it out...you might like it.

There were definitely 2003 models, which had the problems with bias drift etc..

I personally wouldn't buy one of the older UK ones. Why should I?
The newer ones have some nice updates, eg. the resonance knob instead of a deep switch. And who needs a real spring reverb on a hi-gain amp?

DSL amps are plagued with technical issues.
One of them being defective circuit boards.
If you are buying a DSL really cheap, it's probably because it has the defective circuit board.
It may be all burned up on the insides...

"...if it is 2001 or later...the amp will have none of the early heat issues...."

We know that even some of the new replacement boards have the same defects as the old ones.
So the date has little to do with the problems.

Really? Maybe they are pre-2004 produced "NOS" boards, which were stocked by some spare parts distributors?

I think this is hilarious, particularly those who are in denial of all the problems.

But one think is for sure:
If you live in a humid climate, near the ocean etc...you are likely to see more of the issues.
If you live where it's really dry (Arizona), you are much less likely.

Ok thanks, I thought, Marshall fixed that at some point.
However, I wouldn't recommend to buy those old JCM2000 DSLs regardless which year of production.

    "...I wouldn't recommend ..."

    :lol::lol::lol:
It sounds good and that's why players are still going for it.
They put up w/ the problems to have the tone.

Now they got some new programmable chip in there that runs everything.

You wouldn't find any recommendation from me to buy a JCM2000 DSL.
I just try to choose my words wisely to not hurt any feelings of JCM2000 DSL owners. That's all. ;)

I did a bunch of research on the subject....the board was revised in 2001....period.......so any 100 watter after 2001 should be fine.

The board was redesigned in 2001. So any with that board is supposed to be fine.

Reverb sounds great on green clean or crunch.
