One of the best named pedals for total lack of tone.
Also seems to suck all player charisma out as well...

In some cases, tone is in the hands..............see Jack Pearson.

In my case, it's in the gear.:)

the amp and guitar can reproduce within a range, and only within that range of frequencies. They can also deliver that tonal spectrum in different ways..so its frequency response and delivery.
delivery is very important when you're talking signature sounds, some people play like pussies, some players are ferocious, and the best do both.
The player is also limited by frequency response and delivery.
if the guy cant hear, he plays like hes reading from a book, which is probably what he does when no one is looking, hes gonna sound dull, lifeless.
if the player is some kind of a musical monster, he's going to sound like one, ferocious, gentle, dynamic and musical all at the same time.
a brilliant player will sound really good on inferior gear, on good gear he's gonna sound at his/her best.
    the answer is both.
but just remember, gear is just gear, you can buy it or make it anywhere, but once the player is gone, the music goes, and the gear will sound different when someone else is playing it.

edit - ' signature' sounds with well known artists can involve a special guitar, or maybe even amp..if they change that component, they move away from their signature sound..albert king..would he sound the same without that flying v? albert collins...gary moore..srv with #1..

Another type of tone. Tone is in the head. Tone is what you make of it.

Just a note to those in the "It's All In The Hands" camp:

If that were true why doesnt everybody play $25 crate amps and electric banjos?

Actually, that might sound kinda cool....

Anyway, these TONE threads give me a headache.

Never mind. It's raining outside and I may have accidentally puffed on something nefarious.
