The Vintage Modern is a post PI master design.

I could hear a change in my amp overall.A change that I just wasnt satisfied with.I really didnt hear a tone comparable to a MV 2203.It was more raw,and rude with the ppimv.Reminded me of my class 5,which I hated.I like the 1987 stock much better.

Sounds to me like a JCM800. I've not had much to do with them so no idea what model.

I assume this PPMV thing you are talking about is some master volume mod ? If it involves a pot then even on full it probably has an affect. Assuming the mod is between the last gain stage and the phase splitter I'd assume a toggle switch to bypass it should negate any tone difference when it's switch out. Maxing a knob though might not.

LARMAR was what I installed in the last 1987x I modded. In the end, I prefer stock, attenuated, others can do as they wish.

Lar/Mar PPIMV = Larry and Mark post phase inverter master volume type. What I have read, if done correctly it has no audible impact at full volume, and that if not, it does have an impact. It would be worth dropping in a switch to find out for sure though.

This is the one amp that I HAVEN'T put a PPIMV in (yet)
It was a 76 2187 that I put in a head box after I tore a ligament and the doc ordered me to lighten the loads ...Also I just feel like this amp makes a better head than it does a combo

This is with a THD attenuator into a 1965a cab

I don't know what a 2187 is but that sounds pretty bright, which I like btw..

    AlvisX, cool stuff.

It all sounds like good rock n roll, whichever amp.

Agree completely with this, I played a Ceriatone 1987 with a LarMar and neither myself or friends could here a difference when the PPIMV was at full. We all heard a much bigger difference between the various attenuators we all had. Suhr Load ,Hotplate and Fryette Powerstation. The Powerstation was most impressive.

The amp still sounded great, very minor change that becomes even less noticeable when jamming with others.
