Came across a Vintage Modern 2466 from a friend. He's letting it go for a good price. And i always wanted a VM. Heres the thing...it's a B-Stock. He bought it like that. With B-Stock amps..anyone familiar with them? Are they a lot of work? Will they have more problems? Will i be getting myself into something that i don't want to? The amp comes from a good household and it wasn't used that much.

B stock usually means minor cosmetic issues but otherwise totally functional. If you want a VM and it looks okay to you I'd go for it!

B stock is totally fine. Like Mott said, its usually a minor cosmetic issue, or it can possibly even be that it was a return, so they HAVE to label it as B-stock, used, etc.

How much does he want for it?

For what it's worth the EMG-81TW pickups I installed in my Epiphone SG were B stock. This made them cheaper than standard 81's (non-TW) which is why I went for it. I have no idea why they were B stock. They had the original complete packaging and appear cosmetically perfect, and work just fine. Not an amp, but my experience with B stock items has been pretty good so far.

QC probably has a huge checklist of things and if one or two checks fail, it has to be sold as B stock. Could even be stupid irrelevant things like one lead is 0.5" below spec length or power switch actuation force is 7% below spec.

I suspect my 1959RR was a 'return'. it had problem right from the get go.
once they got fixed, it's never missed a beat!

I'd love a VM but I've just filled up the last available place in my house and 2 workshops with a racing bicycle.
so the purple amp's in the waiting bay.

You have the choice of this VM or an 800 or an AFD100 or a JMP50 modded.
    tough choice!

    after 15minutes of thought, i'd save for a AFD100.

unless you wanted a general marshall, but your 2555SL should cover 'general' already.

I have the 2555SL and the SL5 so i'm not really chasing after the AFD. Now i was looking into either an 800 2203 reissue or the VM 2466.

Ouch... $1200 is way too much in my opinion. I see the heads going for $6-700 and the combo's go for less than $1000 all day. Usually around $850-900.

Before people start yelling, I have personally bought a Vintage Modern 100w head for $625 - shipped.

Dude pass on $1200. Thats ridiculous.

$1200 is severely overpriced if it's just the head.

He doesn't want to be embarrassed by posting a pic of a $1200 Crate Blue Voodoo.

Its going to come down to either a VM or a 2203 reissue for the next purchase.

As time goes on, the AFD's will become harder to find.

there are vintage moderns still sitting in shops from brand new many years already.
