Hi all, i'm new here and I have a question for the vintage forum but i need to post a couple of images with my text. No matter how much i compress my images i get a message telling me that the images are too big! It's driving me nuts. The images are not too big. I shrank it down to 1MB and its still not accepting it. How small do images have to be? Everywhere i look on this forum people are posting images left, right and centre yet i can't do it for some reason. Is there something I'm missing.
    Please help.

some people post their images from a hosting site, like imgur, etc. To post images here, they have to be considerably less than 1MB. I have mixed results myself trying to post images, where I've had some in the 700kb range get rejected. I'll usually try to save at 900 pixels on the long side & save in jpg, if png won't fit.

Do note, that being a new member, you'll be limited in how many links, etc., you can post, until your post count reaches a certain point.

A good way to get past that, is to post an introduction thread in the 'introduce yourself' forum. Then, thank everyone who replies, to get your post count up. Simply posting a bit will get you on your way. I'm not sure if there's also a timed probation of a couple days, or whatever, but, just work on getting your post count up & spend a few days here & you should get full access in no time.

    good luck!

Open the image with microsoft paint.
When you open it you can see if it's oversized...click "resize".
I usually reduce a normal photo to about 25% of the original.
Save as: PNG or GIF file, you have this option with paint. These are file formats which are smaller than a JPEG photo file.
Compressing the file is not effective so forget that.

Mitch is our Official Forum Ambassador.
So keep him in mind when you are dealing w/ affairs of state or country etc...
But come 2020 he's headed for the Oval Office; of this I am quite certain.

    Hello!

:welcome: Dig your avatar pic! :dude:

I use Windows Live Photo Gallery.

When you click on your picture you want to work on, in the tool bar above it has properties, click on that, choose from the drop down menue resize, select custom, in maximum dimensions I use 440.
