I want to buy 4x12 Marshall cabinet, but I don't know what kind of speakers it has. The cab is from 1980, it's 120W and it's 16ohm. The seller claims the cab was never opened inside and the speakers are original Celestion, now he is on tour so he can't check them. I think they are Celestion G12H-30. What do you think?

Here's the only pic of the cabs

    Hello,

Given the wattage and the year I would guess you are correct that the cab is loaded with 4 x 30 watt G12H Celestions.

The only way to know for sure is to open the back and look. I have a couple of early 80s 4x12s labelled "120W', that have G12-80s stock (320W). It was common for cabs during those transitional eras to have incorrect wattage tags.

    Cheers!

Sometimes you can remove a handle and shine a flashlight inside and identify the speakers.

Either way, you'll end up with some good speakers. The H30's are worth more, but the G12-80s are pretty nice, too.

This thread got approved too late :D . I already bought it. I played it and I really liked it. When I went home with the cab, I took the back cover and I discovered that the speakers are G12-80, like Clammy said. The cabinet is from a famous guitar player around here - Vlatko Stefanovski.

Not surprised, hehehe... What's the model number on the tag? That, and the impedance, WILL be correct for the cabinet.

    Cheers!

The tag isn't there, probably because the cab was retolexed at some point. But I guess it's a 1982A 16ohm :)

    Cheers!

Cool! I have a 1982B and a 1984B that both have the incorrect 120W tags while sporting factory G12-80s.

    Cheers!

Nice man! I really like this speakers, they go from old-school Marshall crunch to high-gain metal stuff!

    All the best! :D

    Yeah, the G12-80s are my favourite Celestions. I have 4 4x12s loaded with them (3x 1982B, 1x 1984B)! :D

    Cheers!

    I agree that it's likely a 1982A. I have one too!
