I had the Grace Potter model. It was cool, but it just didn't sound good to me. Odd, because it's the first time I ever played a Gibson V that I did not like.

Nice, but I wish Gibson would make these with a white headstock.

It looks like a faded to me ,although maybe not
But it seems the Cherries are a bit darker
Gotta give Carlos props though , he's been thru it !

One of two cherries. I blacked em out , they look better

My pal Steve with what was allegedly The Kinks V, although that was never quite substantiated
Apparently Mike Campbell had been on the hunt for that guitar

I was really not a fan of the cherry finish until I had the blackout idea
And they made so many of em . I had two white ones ,like the one Kim Simmonds has in the pic above , a black one and two cherries
Those '67 reissues were really consistent ,great guitars from '89 thru the mid oughts

They made a bunch of sunburst finished '67 reissues around 91-92. I missed deals on a few of em over the years .My old neighbor, Little Jimmy King, had about 3 of 'em. We had actually talked about trading one of my white ones for one of his sunbursts...sadly he passed away before we got around to that deal

That does suck to lose one of your buds, regardless of the swap!

So this has been in the works over the a long period of time
About 7-8 years when I blacked out the plastic on that Cherry v I posted previously , i saved the guard and truss rod cover as I figured I'd pick up another V carcass down the road . I was hoping for a white ,sunburst or black '67 reissue carcass to pop up

A few chances came and went over the years ...maybe I had funds ,maybe I didn't . I had thought if I scored a black one ,I'd make it into sort of a Petty tribute guitar (this was while he was still kickin) ala the V TP played circa 1978
Well....it took awhile .A black '06 67 reissue carcass popped up and found it's way into my hands,so i got to it

Im not sure what year Tom's V was . He got it around '78 when they started makin some money. It had metal keystone gears on it ,not sure if they were actual Gibson tuners of the day or keystone Grovers ,but I went with the Grovers because they work and they look close enough

I didn't use black speed knobs ,which i think he had ,because I think they look lame on a V . I like reflectors...witch hats are ok too

It turned out a fairly resonant beast .The pickups are a pair of nickel covered Duncan 59's ...not too hot

I guess now it's a real tribute axe

That instrument is beautiful Alvis, I love it, I keep peeking for a black one myself, but I need to focus on speakers at the moment! Cheers Mitch

    Nice, man!

I really like the top hat knobs on there, looks right.

I exchanged the speed knobs for top hats on my explorer too. I think it looks just the tiniest bit classier for some reason.

My V has top hats, too, come to think if it.

Ahh ok...just googled them up, I guess I didn't realize there was a difference but after looking twice, I still agree. Reflector knobs look better!
