I keep trying out new hot sauces/salsas. I keep trying hot sauce that says "HOT" on the rating, but, they never are. The MEDIUM" ones seem mild & the "MILD" ones are just cut up tomatoes...

I found one the other day called Mrs Renfro's & it says "scary hot".

    Do use w/ caution though:

I'm a HUGE fan of Mrs. Renfro's, and was having some of that Ghost Pepper salsa just last night (while I was refreshing the forum 8,964 times waiting for it to come back up. But that's not important right now). I also like their Habanero salsa and a few others. I buy that brand the most because it's legitimately hot and flavorful, but not overpriced. My favorite is Jalokia 10, but that stuff's around $13 for a jar slightly smaller than Mrs. Renfro's.

Anyway, thanks for the reminder: it's about time for me to place another order. :yesway:

I got it at WinCo, don't know if there's one near you guys. I'll have to try those other flavors out Vin. I do like the salsa to have good flavor. I don't like vinegar flavor, which most jalapeno flavors taste like to me. I put a bit of this on top of my enchiladas the other night & topped it off w/ some Pace "medium" & it had some good flavor. Probably a 2:1 mix (med/hot), so about a 1/3rd was the Ghost sauce...

I was just eating breakfast a few minutes ago (when I posted this) & just poured the Ghost sauce on it...

Yeah - I usually mix their Ghosty salsa with some medium or mild grocery store salsa 'cause it's really too hot for just dipping chips. My wife makes Mexican burritos and puts that on them with some cheese on top.

I also like hot sauce, and have had Mad Dog 357 (what is it, like 750,000,000 scovilles or something like that? :D) I had to sign a release for it, which is kinda gimmicky. But anyway, you shake the bottle, open the cap and dip the tip of a toothpick in the cap and stick that on your tongue, and wait for the...

... BOOM &$@@%&*!!! - NOT the kind of stuff you screw around with at all.

Ha! Growing up here, it's sort of like Mexico North. The city where I am is where the Railroad settled & even though it's a small town, it's still a prominent railroad town. During the whole Pancho Villa thing, many Mexicans settled here & developed the south side of town.

I remember a buddy of mine, back when I was a teenager, brought some homemade salsa over & asked me to try it. 1 dip of the finger & a quick taste, gave me the hiccups right away, made my eyes water, nose run. It took a while for the hiccups to stop. Anything that makes you do bodily functions that you can't control is no fun to me...

    It did taste good though...

Yeah, right? I think you actually get a high off the ultra hot stuff. :D
That Mad Dog 357 is a fun way to entertain your friends - they never believe what 1/2 drop on the end of a toothpick can do. It surprises them quite a bit, bit that much is harmless. I've seen YT vid's where these tough guys eat spoons if it, etc.

But anyway. I suppose you were talking more about flavor.

There is a point IMO when the heat starts to ruin the flavor.

Oh, absolutely. But I think for me it makes up for it in personal entertainment value at that point.

i agree with you too. i like some burn but if it just totally overrides the flavor of the food
its time to kick it back a few notches.

I didn't care for sriracha much either. It tasted kinda different than your typical hot sauce. Louisiana hot sauce is pretty good, for a grocery store hot sauce.
